I think this symbol is for a pedal--but not really sure what they are asking me to do....

It appears under the bass clef and I will do my best to illustrate it in "computer keyboard" language:

l_____^_____^______^_____^______^_____^_____^_____ simile

(of course all of that is connected with no breaks...so the carrot connects to the line)

This goes on for 6 measures until the word simile appears...each "carrot" appears under a note....then nothing for the rest of that page, then it shows:

____^____^____^___^______simile for the first couple of measures on the top of the next page...then doesn't show it again until half way down the third page.

So what does that mean?

Thanks

I believe that you are to use the "sustain" pedal (the one on the right) at the beginning of each measure. "Simile" means to continue in the same manner for the rest of the page.

The carrot is when you lift the pedal up for chord changes, the line is when you hold down the pedal.
