piano lessons - how much do you pay?

Everything is expensive in Massachusetts! :teeth:

We pay $37 for 30 minutes once per week at the music school near DD11's school. Great teacher though, so we feel it is worth it...

Well, I must be lucky! I pay 120 dollars a month for 3 children to have one hour long lesson per week. We homeschool, and the piano teacher goes to our church. She has many students and also teaches at a local school. It works out to 10 dollars per child per hour long lesson. :cool1:

The music director of our church gives my DGD free piano lessons at the church. The ½ hour lessons are given Wed. evenings in the sanctuary before the prayer service. DGD only has a keyboard at home, so must do a lot of practicing at church on their piano in the SS room. Both student and teacher are dedicated piano lovers.

We pay $38/hr and drive to the teachers house 15 min away. She also now requires full pmt for the month at the first of the month. :bitelip:

Bobbysdog, where in Mass. are you? You are paying about the same as we are... I think we pay 31.00 for 30 minutes for harp lessons... but the piano lessons (and all lessons) are the same price... We are at the Indian Hill Music School in Littleton, MA....

I'd kill to pay half the price LOL...

Half hour lesson per child: $10
Gas for the round trip to the teachers house: $3
Used piano: $1400
Hearing them randomly "play notes that sound good together": Priceless!

I pay $25 for a half hour lesson and we have to go to the music studio. That is actually pretty good for the Hudson VAlley region of NY, where everything is higher than it should be :confused3

I pay $5.50 for a 15 minute lesson once a week, plus about $14 per year for books. My son is only 4 and his teacher specializes in teaching very young students. She has a Masters in music education and uses the "Music for Little Mozarts" curriculum. We go to her house for the lesson.

We pay $10 for 30 minutes. The teacher just raised her rates this month for the first time in 18 years...it was $5 for 30 minutes!! Lessons are at a church about 10-15 minutes from home.

I pay $90 a month for 45min. weekly lessons. Pretty much the going rate in my neck of the woods

Okay, I'm feeling guilty here. I pay $32 per month for weekly 30 min lessons. The teacher's house is about 3 minutes from my house. I knew I was getting a good deal, just did not realize how good!!

I pay $10 for a 30 minute lesson. During the school year the piano teacher comes to the school and my daughter has her lesson during recess or some other free time. During the summer if you want lessons the teacher has one day at her house and one day at school. You can pick which you prefer.

My DD takes Voice, not piano, but we pay our Childrens Music Director $5 per week for a 30 min. lesson. Our church is just over the hill and this works out great. DD used to take lessons from a lady near her school and we paid $14 per 1/2 lesson (she charged the same for voice or piano), but since she changed schools we had to do something else. Worked out great for us. Saved us $9 per week and we just go over the hill. We feel blessed.

I pay $35.00 for an hour of piano and another $17.00 for 1/2 hour for my daughters theory lesson. Books cost $200. per year and her exams cost another $175.00 She is 14 and has taken piano since she was 6. Fortunately she is now teaching younger students and charges $10. 1/2 hour lesson and the parents think that they have a great deal. I also know that my daughter has a great deal with her teacher. Other teachers that are teaching students at her level charge $50-60 per hour.

She also has taken classical guitar and violin.

We pay 100 per month for my 9 year old son. 1 private lesson per week (about 40 minutes.) plus books. My 3 (almost 4) just started taking a music class from the same teacher. This class has 4 students and mommies and is 30 minutes every week. This charge will be 75 per month. The teacher has a private studio and we drive approximately 20 minutes(each way) to get there. She is very good and my son is doing very well. (if he wasn't, I would look for something closer AND cheaper!)

DD6 starts lessons next month. The academy charges $37.50 per month. Lessons are once a week for 45 minutes and are done with 2 students working in tandem on individual pianos. There is an additional 1 hour group lab each month, which consists of music history/theory & a small recital.
