Can anyone give me a quick tip on the best way to fix a spot of sun (on part of someone's face) in an otherwise decent shot? I'm using elements 10 but have only played with the basics a couple of times so I'm not really sure what I'm doing. :(

Would need to see the photo to give the best advice... how big of a spot, where on the face, what is the angle of the face, etc.

Could try the patch tool to pick another spot of skin that is similarly toned to patch it in. Or if it's a straight-on shot, you could copy the good side of the face and flip it to mirror it on the other side (would work for just a spot on the face, but not the entire half, as our faces are not symmetrical).

I am not sure if Elements has the "healing brush" but there should be something similar, this is made for such touch-ups.

It does have the healing brush. When I used that it just sort of made the skin blotchy and at one point gave her three eyes. Lol. Haven't found a patch tool as pp mentioned.

You can try either cloning an area of skin that does match... Click on the clone stamp, select the area you want to use as a source, and then clone away..
You can also try using a brush (either photoshop or lightroom) to just bring down the exposure a little around the sun spot.
It would be easier to give advice if you posted the photo.

Did you shoot raw? Bring down the highlights and lift the shadows. Reduce the contrast. It won't completely undo the different lighting, but it will make it much subtle.
