Photoshop Elements

Very cool!!:thumbsup2 Thank you! I like having control over how much you want to "buzz" a shot.

A little buzz...

A lot...

OMGosh! I love the one of the baby in the field of flowers.

I'm tempted to get some really nice paper art paper and print mine out for hanging.

for some reason i couldn't get it to load into pse5,,is it an actual plug in like aliens skin?

Yep, it's a plugin. When you install it, browse for this location:

C:> Program Files> Adobe> Photoshop Elements > Plug-ins

Hmmm, that's where mine is at. It's under "filters" in the Editor.

There really aren't any directions. You just "add" the filters over on the stack to see what you get. It helps if you zoom in a bit. I'm going to download the pricey trial version as well, so I can do some more playing around. After buzzing, try bumping up the contrast and saturation.

"Dave's Simplifier" at atncentral.com is similar (but not the same). The price is good, free!

There are enough Photoshop actions at atncentral to keep us busy for a long time.

Ok, I'm having some very blonde moments here, but I just can't for the life of me figure out the difference between photo book pages, album pages, scrapbooks, photo layout and slideshows! Can someone explain the difference?

What I'd like to do is build a slideshow that I can email to someone who might not have PE themselves. Is there a way to do that, or am I best to just use something like Picasa? I've started an album and got some pretty neat effects, but when I run it, it throws in all these other photos at the end that aren't even in the same folder! Argggghhh...

I know there are tons of books out there, any recommendations?

p.s. didn't mean to offend any other blondes out there!

I won't try to explain the differences between the different formats they've introduced but to answer you questions about creating a slideshow, yes. It's very easy to create one that needs no external application other than Media Player, which comes with Windows.

When you have copleted the creation process, there is an option to create a .WMV file. Choose this option and a place to find it (I usually use the desktop to make it easy). Once complete, just ship it to your friends and family via any chosen means (email, cd, dvd, etc.). It will be a very big file, so email may not be your best choice.

This all assumes you are using a recent version of Elements, 4 or greater.

Warning: Don't put in too many images. It could stall your PC. Keep it managable.

DH bought me PSE4 as a Christmas gift, so I signed up for a class at our community college. I've only had 3 sessions so far, but lookie what I can do!!!

Now you see the people leaning on the fence in the background:

And now you don't!

(I also got rid of the guy's leg on the left of the picture)

This is WAY COOL!!:thumbsup2

And yes, I know the cloning in the 2nd photo isn't the greatest; every time I look at it I think of something else I could have done with it. But it's my first effort at doing something major like this, it took me 2 hours to do (I'm sure it'll get faster when I'm more comfortable using all the tools) and it was a pain in the a$$ lining up the railing posts, but I'm still proud of it!!

great job amy! makes me want to take a class

I don't think there's anything wrong with the cloning - had I not seen the original I would have never known about the background people or the leg - which is what you intended!

Good job!

Thanks! I have the "Missing Manual" book and have been playing around with PSE4 on my own, but it really helps going to a class where you can ask somebody questions while you're doing it. And it's great to have someone explain all the diff. tools and when it's best to use each one. I can see my house won't be getting cleaned on a regular basis any more; I'll be busy playing with my pictures!;)

Nice job Amy! You will get much faster I guarantee it! I have found editing photos in this way very addictive. Sometimes I even catch myself wanting to selectively edit other people's photos here on the DIS.

Your cloning looks good to me.
Funny, we can always see it if we did it but it's very difficult to see someone else's cloning job when it is done well.
Keep up the good work!

Although I have a problem with editing photographs (old school thinking I guess), you did a great job and now you have a photo worthy of framing and being very proud of! Great job! :thumbsup2

I have played around with photoshop a bit and a year or two ago (don't they just fly by?) I edited the following picture as a joke to the local Audubon Society people. Since we know them and follow a particular pair of piping plovers (endangered here in Mass) for them every summer, I decided to send a picture of a "flock" of plovers to them and told them that the beach was overrun with them. It was a good joke and got immediate telephone calls to us until we let them in on the secret. :rotfl2:

Anyways, here are the photos I used.

Andy, I know what you mean about having a problem with editing photos - how can you ever be sure that the photo you're looking at is the real thing? We can do such wonderful things with computers now....but will there be any Ansel Adams in the future? And from a legal standpoint, too. Like my photos above: "No, your honor, my clients weren't leaning on that fence on Main Street in June 2005 - see they're not in this picture." ;)

By the way....I like your plovers!!!
