Hi I was wondering if anyone could help....i rebooted my pc about 3 months ago and backed all ym stuff up on a external harddrive...when ive come to open alot of photos of Florida etc it says they are 'PMS files and nothing on the computer supports it'....does anyone know which software this supports? Thanks...im stuck and want my photos to scrapbook!

Its some sort of Bitmap file. Do you use Photoshop as that I believe can read them, or you should be able to get a plug in that can.

I would say the same as allie5 did. How did you have your photos arranged on your pc? If they were in some sort of library then "pms" maybe the file extension the software gave them.

Just guessing as I'm nothing like a computer whizz.

May be worth amending the title of the thread to include "PMS files" or something similar in case any computer guys miss it otherwise.

Hi Emilly I've tried a google search for PMS files and someone had a similar problem with music files which they had to do over. All I can suggest is you post on the technical broad and hope they have an answer as to how you can open them or convert them to a format you can.

When you backed up your files did you use backup software or did you just copy the files to the external drive?

The nearest file type I can find is Alicesoft PMS Bitmaps - does that ring a bell. You can get a Photoshop Add-In to read the format.

Thanks guys for your help, i download photoshop trial but it didn't recognise it...because when i backed the machine up everything was crashing i literally dragged all the files over thinking they were jpeg...o dear! I've tried re-naming but nothing...thanks for your help though...ill keep trying!

Emily, you will need to add the PMS add in for this extension. Without it Photoshop won't recognise the format.

Do you know how you saved in that original format?

I have absolutely no idea! the only thing i can think of is that dell had software on there before which i obviously haven't got now
