Is photography allowed on Soarin' ... or... is it NO FLASH photography?
I'm just sitting around being curious.

Nope. Zip. Nada. No pictures once the lights go out.

No video either.

Although I did snap a quick picture of DW and DD in the 'hang glider' just before takeoff...

I don't know if they are allowed for sure or not but I got on the ride last year with the camera around my neck and no one told me to put it under the seat. I didn't get on with the intention of taking photos, I just didnt want to shove my D300 under the seat. Once the ride took off I thought ... "I could maybe snap a few pics in here." I didnt bring the camera up to my eye, I just kinda "shot from the hip." I didnt expect to get any pics to keep just wanted to see how they would come out. Next time I might try the fisheye and pay a little more attention to all the settings on the camera before I get on the ride. Here is one of the shots I decided to keep just to have a few from Soarin till I get better ones.

I wouldn't be messin' with Patrick after his pre-show spiel, if you know what I mean.

It would be cool to try to get a wide-angle shot, but I don't remember if it was photography prohibited or just the flash.

I am pretty sure they said no flash photography when I was there in Feb. I took some but they didn't come out very well. 35mm f/1.8 lens set at 1.8

It is no photography at all. Seems like every time I get on they have to interrupt the ride and come over the loud speaker to tell someone to put their camera away at least once. (not me btw)

I usually have a bag with me and have the camera put away in the bag to put under the seat.

I remember it as no photography at all on Soarin', but the CMs aren't always consistent. I've been to the American Adventure whey the CM in the lobby distinctly said "No flash photography" and when I got inside and started to put my camera on the monopod the CM at the mic sternly 'reminded' us that there was "no photography of any kind" so I put it away. :confused3

When I went on, they saw my camera around my neck and made particular attention to tell me to put it under the seat and that photography was not allowed... It wouldn't fit (cause i had an SB600 flash on top) so I left it on the floor near my backpack :scared1: I was worried it was not going to be there when i got back, but it was... I have seen some decent pics on it though, so I guess if you fly under the radar getting on the ride, you might be able to get a few...

Maybe it does depend on the CM. I had my D80 around my neck and they never said a word not even when they did the seatbelt check:confused3.

I've been on a few times where they've said no flash photography (and yet have proceeded to come on over the loudspeaker once). Didn't do too hotly, but I'm sure you could:

Like many Disney rides/shows- it varies from trip to trip. I just listen and do what they say on any given day. This day they just said 'no flash'.

I listened very carefully the last time I was there too and I was sure they said "No Flash Photography" so I took pics. My DH swears that I'm a big rule breaker and (LOL) threatens to not ride with me again lest I get banned from the park.

Love this ride especially in Disneyland. We visited all the sites in California prior to going to DL last year and riding Soarin' again. Oh it is as amazing. My wife and kids were so tickled on the Yosemite part. Good times.

We are headed to WDW this summer so I will have to keep my ears open for the restrictions.

Does anyone know if they use a different spiel in DCE vs. Epcot for this? We're heading to DL for a quick visit in a couple months. After seeing Tom's photo a while back, I thought it would be fun to try one of my own. For me, the photos are about making me feel like I"m back on the ride, and that shot with the feet dangling just grabbed me!

Amy and Jeff - Awesome shots too! I'm definitely going to try and fly "under the radar"......

Like has been said, just listen for what the instructions are that day. This same situtation happened to me last trip, but in the Haunted Mansion stretching room. I was pretty sure they said no flash photography, but when I got ready to take a shot the CM walked up and said No Photography. :confused3

That's crazy- Disney needs to get their act together and be consistent with the rules. (Or at the very least- only be inconsistent when it benefits Disney photography enthusiasts. :rolleyes1 )

I took pics on this ride last time we were there. Nobody said anything to me.

I think that it is bad that they don't let you use a flash on Soarin'. It's too dark to get good shots without a flash. And don't get me started on it bothering other people. A flash lasts for less than 1/1000th of a second. If someone takes 50 flash pictures, that's still less than 1/2 of a percent of the ride.

I hope you're joking. What would be the point of using a flash on soaring, we're you're just going to wash out the projected image? I've had folks on Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion ruin the effects (and my low light vision) by repeatedly using flash on these rides. Flash has its place, but it destroys the careful lighting effects on many of the rides.
