A recent work trip brought me to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. I was also able to get to Dubai one day. All in all, it was an interesting trip. I'm attaching a few photos I took.

nice photos of someplace i highly doubt i'll ever find myself ...are the vines/flowers etc on the mosque mosaic or painted?

The hotel and water park across from it are two places I think I would really like to go and see.

jann: The vines and flowers on the wall at the mosque are actually inlaid stone. Here are some close-ups:

Shutterbug, the water park (Wild Wadi, I think it was called?) looked like TONS of fun! For the Burj, unless you've got a room reservation, a spa appointment, or a dining reservation, they don't even let you through the front gate. I think my driver said you could arrange for a tour for free, but that wasn't ever mentioned in the guidebooks I had.
