I got my Canon 40D a few weeks ago, and so far I am loving it! It seems to have much faster and accurate focusing than my old 20D. Noise levels seem to be up a tad, but clean up well in PP. Here are a few of my first shots with my new cam.

Wow-super sharp. Love the water droplets on the swan, and the giggle box is adorable!

The images look fine. They POP! Sharpness looks god all the way to the edges of the plane in focus - and it seems to be more apparent at the tip of the gooses' bill and the tips of the Skipper wing as well as the fuzz on the stem in the same image. I must say your shots have immediately ins[ired me to seek out some macro subjects to try my hand at it!

And I must confess - I am planning on getting a 40D too! I'm the sort however to wait until the exictement of its' introduction fades a bit - and the price settles a little... if it ever does. I see the 40D as a real evolutionary step forward as opposed to the 30D which failed to WOW me (conpared to the 20D). As such - I'm going to soldier on a few more months with my recently repaired 10D. I just got it back from the Canon repair folks in Irvine - who were nice enough to slip in a new shutter assembly for my $195. So - I'll shoot a little bit more until I git ma hands on my own 40D.... where upon the 10D shall be relegated to "backup body" status.

So - if I may enquire - how DO you like the handling qualities of the 40D? Have you noticed anything different which may not have been apparent to the lurking masses here who just have online reviews. Us fence sitters are salivating in the shadows over the notion of acquiring this hot new (DSLR) body! ;)

This camera is a big jump from the 20D. The new menus are one of my favorites. The viewfinder also seems much brighter that that on the 20D. Also the picture style menu is a very cool addition. I kind of feel that the images from this camera don't need as much PP than with my older Canons. My two bones to pick are, the slight increase in noise, which can be worked around and that the RAW files are 2.5 MB more than the 20D RAW files. One thing that keeps popping up in my mind is that, I feel that this camera produces a very different image than my prior Canons, they almost have more of a film like quality.

I KNEW I should not have come lurking on this forum... cuz it's comments like THIS above which get me drooling again at the notion of upgrading my trusty old 10D. Thanks for the friendly agitation! :surfweb:

The 40D is a fantastic camera! I'll be picking one up for our trip to WDW in December, to upgrade from my original DRebel 300D.

I'm also thinking of picking up the Sigma 50-150mm f2.8 lens for general walkaround. I've got the 28-135mm Canon IS already, which is a great lens, but really want a walkaround telezom that goes into lower apertures for nighttime shots, and can't quite justify the cost for the 70-200 is.. :(

Great shots btw! Love the swan.

Cheers!

I actually disagree about the noise. My 20D gives me way more noise than my 40D.

Very nice- Enjoy your new camera!
