Even though this was my second time hosting a photopass share, I didn't pay attention to costs the first time. This time I assumed $20 would cover all expenses. Here's the actual costs, for those of you considering:

We had a group of 6, at $20 a piece.

Paypal fees: 0.88 x 5 = 4.40

Shipping (USPS first class) 1.51*5=7.55

Bubble mailers (although Kmart has been out for a week I had to get creative with bubble wrap and art paper) =$4.00

CD's with cases =$4.99

Grand total: 20.94. So I was only off by $1.

Hope this helps any future groups!:goodvibes

I understand what you're trying to do, and it's nice to share, but I think your logic is off. :goodvibes

The costs you listed are the costs that would be split between the 5 other people in the share (don't incur shipping, CD, etc for yourself). So, the $20.94 would be split 5 ways for $4.19 each.

In addition to the misc. costs, you have the basic CD of $100 assuming you pre-ordered, and this would be split 6 ways for $16.67 each.

This means, the other 5 people in the share would need to pay you $20.86. Which works out to be close to the $20.94 which you posted, but reflects the actual shared costs. Right? Make sense?

I'd say you did great estimating and would make it $21 in the future to be exact with a group of 6!

Thanks for sharing the info. :thumbsup2 Anyway you say it $20-$21 per family is a great deal. :goodvibes

I ran a very small one last Sept. with only 2 other families (3 total). I preordered and since our little group ended up with a total of 2180 pix (all but 150 were mine ;) ) on 5 CDs I was able to send my 2 sharers each an original CD and case along with a burned CD with photots not on their orignial. I didn't use bubble mailers and they arrived fine. :goodvibes

Luckily for my joiners I am a DLR AP holder and we visited DLR alot in Sept. When I was done with edits the price of the CD was only $59.95 which is the DLR price, plus $7 shipping. The DLR pix were the last taken so that set the price. :cloud9: I actually refunded my joiners for the price difference and was able to get a refund from PP for my pre-order. :goodvibes

If we go again in Sept. I plan on doing the same thing-small group, go to DLR after

Oops, sorry if I wasn't clear...Yes, each person paid me $20, for a total of $120 (including my part). $100 for the CD plus $20 in costs. Actual total costs including CD were approx 121...so I was off by a dollar.

I just paid $26 for a photo share with what I thought was 6 but looks like she may have upped to 8. Am I getting a bad deal?

You might ask the leader if they're issuing a refund since the group is now larger. Did they say how they calculated the cost? I've always split the $100 CD price among however many people in the share and then added $4 - $5 each for each person (other than myself) that I'm sending the CD to which covers packing materials, actual CD, & postage. Using this estimate, then 6 people in a share would be about $21.50 and 8 people in a share would be about $17.50.

You have to remember that not all people have the ability to pick up low cost CD's and holders. They may not buy them in bulk like others may. My shipping costs were a bit more when I did my photopass. I undercharged for mine though... And somewhere in the mix, just a bit of consideration should go to the leader who is using their time and gas to purchase the items and to burn the CD's. Not that anyone should pay more for this, but a thank-you would be nice....

For the poster whose group moved from 6 to 8 I would have the leader break down the costs for you. I made sure to send a detailed list to everyone in my share.

I totally agree that the leader deserves a big Thank You and I don't even mind an extra buck for her trouble, I just didn't realize the "going" rate was that much less than what I paid. Still a bargain at $26. I certainly don't want to cause problems...I would hate my CD to get damaged in the shipping process.:sad2:

I don't think asking for a breakdown should cause any problems. You deserve to know what your paying for. It was really easy for me to break down my costs... But you didn't hear it from me, I under-estimated some of the costs so that the people in my share wouldn't have to pay $1.00 or 2 more. I didn't mind eating the little bit of difference. Plus some people may put insurance on the shipping or confirmation, so the group should know what they are getting...

I took it upon myself (NO COST TO ANYONE) to make CD covers and also I put a Disney sticker on the DVD so it would look nice. It made me feel good doing it... Like spreading the Disney cheer. My first share leader did this also. I am sure she lost a few dollars also, but in the long run we gained friendships and a good feeling.

not to be a thread hijacker but I got a question. I am running a march share for the first time. I am going to disney on Feb 28th to March 7th. now I am going to create the account when I get home around the 10th and then close it on April 5th for the cd. am I ok on this, cause I have 30 days from feb 28th to claim the photos and then another 30 days for the cd. correct me if i'm wrong so I know before I get my share set in stone. TY

I will say that when I've been the leader of a group, I don't do anything fancy at all with the CD/DVD's. We have them around the house bought in bulk, and I don't know what the cost is, but DH said they were pretty cheap. I buy padded envelopes and put the CD right in the envelope without any type of holder at all. No Disney label, no pretty note - just a CD or DVD with the pictures on it! I just send regular first class mail with no insurance or tracking. If something happens to a CD in the mail and the person doesn't receive it, I'll just make another copy and send it to them - no problem. I keep a backup of all the photos on my PC.

I personally don't keep the CD's around anyway because I load it on my PC and back that up. I assume others also don't really keep the CD, so it doesn't matter much what it looks like or if it has a case. It's going to be loaded on the PC and discarded anyway!

You are right. :goodvibes You have until March 30th to claim your Feb. 28 pix and then another 30 days on top of that to order CD. If you start uploading on March 10 then you will have until April 9th.

Wow! I want to be in your group!

BUT, if you pre-order the CD BEFORE your trip, you can save $25.

Also,
I print a Color copy of the Copyright to enclose and make sure it is loaded onto the CD.
When ordering from Walmart, I had emailed them a copy of the copyright, but they wanted me to bring a copy to keep on file for future orders.

There is a clearance on envelopes at Office Depot, all the mailing supplies if any are going out near you all.

The other thing is watch that CVS and RITE AID have had them as low as 3 $1.

First class mail is also going up I think in March.

Even if you pre order for $99 the cost of the CD comes out to about $115 with shipping of $7 and tax. Just wanted to add that in because once I forgot the tax and the other time I just decided I would handle both of those costs.

When I pre-ordered mine in Sept. there was no tax or shipping. Maybe they changed it.

I ordered 2 weeks ago and paid tax then, shipping for me has always been charged when I actually order the CD. I have only done it 3x though, once 2 weeks ago, in October and then about 2 years before that.

I wasn't charged tax or shipping when I pre-ordered Dec 2008 and ordered the CD Jan 2009. So, unless things have changed very recently, there's no tax or shipping on the CD from Disney if you pre-order.
