what is it exaclty? and how much is it? i think i read free up front so how much are the cd's or prints? thanks

It's a card you get from the DL photographer. Everytime they take your picture (at meet and greets, etc) they can the card. You can look at the photos in the park or at home online. The CD is around $60, not sure about prints. You can upload your own photos from your camera and add borders or create scrapbooks.

The prints start around 12.95 for a 4x6. Ouch. If you find even 3 that you might want, you want to consider getting the CD, because you get the images and the rights to use those prints for non-commercial reasons (make prints, copy the CD, etc). If you buy it at the park you get the plain pictures (good for scrapbookers who use their own photo editing software, IMO) and I've seen them have specials where you get a couple prints thrown in. If you buy it online later, it's the same cost (59.95) plus $7.00 shipping.

If you make an account now, you'll only see Disneyworld information, just so you know. Making an account is totally fine, it's just that sometimes people get scared when they see the default (WDW) pricing. :) It's a lot more at WDW.

Oh...this site, by a Dis'er, has good info on photopass, the products, the CD, etc. Just know that some of the stuff on there is WDW-centric and won't apply to DLR.

I got 92 photos on my CD, I paid $59.95 plus tax & shipping on it. Before I ordered I put borders around most of the photos so I got the enhanced pics and the regular ones as well. It's really not that great a deal, I only did it because we had our BBB pics on it and photographer at the castle after dark got a reallllllllly good family pic of us. In all our trips to DL over the past few years we've only purchased this one PP CD.

You don't need to sign up for it. The preorder makes sense for WDW, but since Disneyland's regular price is cheaper than the WDW price, you don't need to preorder. If you visit the both WDW and Disneyland, you will be able to get the CD for the Disneyland price provided that you enter the Disneyland PhotoPass information on the website last.

So if you arrive home on August 1, you have until roughly September 1, give or take, to type in the code from your card into the website. Once you type in the code, you have roughly 30 days before they'll start to remove the photos from the website. I went to WDW in late May. About mid June, I typed in my photopass code. I wound up going to Disneyland in early July and uploaded those photos a few days later and now my CD price is $59.95 because the system is reading the last card I entered in.

Also keep an eye out for the special offers tab because they occasionally have some great deals there.

Q: If I were to have magic shots, would I need to go to the photo places in the parks to see the characters & other things they would add or could I just go online & see it w/out having to visit the photo places. And if I were to just see it online, would I need to add the special enhancements myself?

In case people don't know, the magic shots are ones in which Disney adds something to the photograph. Common examples including holding Tink in the palm of your hands, Stitch jumping out of the ground into your picture, and Mickey or Minnie sitting next to you on a bench. There are a host of others I haven't covered and probably some I've never even seen.

The magic shot elements are automatically added to your picture. You do not need to add them yourself at home, but you can add additional borders to the magic shots if you want to. Viewing the photos in the park does not start the 30 day clock ticking. While you do not need to view the photos in the park, I highly recommend doing so. Photopass pictures can and do go missing. Disney can usually find these, but it's much easier to do so when you have other examples of the shirts, hats, et all people were wearing in the picture and have a CM looking right at other pictures (and people) of your group. Your best bet is to go when the photo store is not crowded, so morning is usually a great time.

I also had a case where one of my magic shots wasn't working. The photograph was there, but the magic part was missing. It was quite easy for them to get it working right then and there. It may be harder to do so after you're home because you're trying to describe something that a person on the other end of the telephone may not be able to see.

Glad to help. While I'm a seasoned Disneyland veteran, I've also learned a lot here, so I'm try to pass on some of the things I've learned either for myself or from others.

Speaking of which, I recommend using the PhotoPass service in addition to, and not a replacement for, your own personal camera. There will always be pictures that your camera can't capture (and not just the magic shots), and there will also be times that your camera dies right before you're going to meet that special character(I've had that happen to me). Likewise, there are also going to be wonderful memories(including characters) when the PhotoPass photographer isn't around. You can always ask them to take pictures with your camera too.

I've had times where my camera better captured the moment and I've had times where PhotoPass better captured the moment.

It is, but at the same time WDW has 4 theme parks and 2 water parks, so they have a whole lot more opportunities for photos.

Did the CD cost just recently go down since I thought it was $99 when purchased photos there a few weeks back...
We spent approximately $50 so we would of just purchased the CD if we knew it was only $50...

I love photopass, it is the only souvenir we buy anymore so the cost is irrelevant in that light.Make sure to visit the stickie thread at the top of the page to see all of the great poses, pictures, and borders.

OOPS ! The thread is actually on the DL Community page :)

We have only had 1 magic shot ever, it was in DCA by the bridge, they added it for us and we saw it when we logged in at home. They added Mickey and gang hang gliding over the bridge and we are pointing at them, the only problem is DBF is so tall he's touching them! LOL It's a super cute pic tho.

The price has been the same for a year, perhaps a bit more. They started messing with the price, bringing it down slowly, late December '07 (I thought it started Jan '08 but someone on mouseplanet went after we did in Dec and told me that the prices had dropped at that point), and it's been 59.95 since then.

I'm sad that the CM didn't notice you were buying prints so close in price and suggest the CD. :(
