A few questions about photopass since the change in process, please bear with me.

I understand that the price to purchase the cd has increased from $99 to $125. I am trying to determine if this will be a good idea for us or if we should just plan on taking all of our own pictures.

It sounds like you used to be able to add embelishments to your pictures while you were in the parks, however it looks like you can not do that now but there are some embellishments on the cd that you can add to your photos. Does anyone know if the embellishments on the cd that you can add at home match the ones that you used to be able to add in the parks?

I have heard that you can lose some pictures while you are there if you don't get your cd burned soon enough, for example the pictures with Tink and Stitch added. We will be there 10 days and I am wondering if we need to worry about possibly losing these pictures?

How many photos can you have on a cd?

Since you can't add embellishments while your at the parks anymore, does it make a difference if you buy your cd at the park vs ordering it when you get home?

Thanks for your help.

I'll try to answer some of these.

We think the CD would be good if we were going to stay there for a few days and made an effort to get alot of pictures throughout the parks. I will guess they will put as many pictures as they can on a CD, which at 4 megs per picture (guess) and a 700 Meg CD that would be about 175 pictures.

we were there in Nov/Dec and purchased the CD, we have 275 pictures on it. So it was really good value for us. Cant wait to her about the new add ons to see if it is worth the extra cash.

We went in Oct and Dec . Now our photos were extended because of the rebuild of the sight but for CD ordering they hold for 60 days normally.

We ended up with about 150 pictures total (good for us ).But after adding boarders and doing a few cropping shots we endedup with 280 on the CD and it took about a week to get.

So you do get to keep the original photo and any copies from making changes that can all be done on the web-sight. Our Tink was still on there from the DEC trip as well.

My understanding is and from looking at my CD that they will do multible CD's to get your photos on them for the one charge of price.

I would wait until you get home so you can take your time and crop and add boarders that can be time consuming if you have a lot of photos.

I hope this helps.

WOW PP keeps sounding better and better. How many ride photos are on it or scheduled to be added soon?:goodvibes

I believe only Test Track is available now and the rest are rumored to be available by the end of the year.

Did I read correctly that the photos will only be held for 60 days? I know that I heard that once you activate and view your photos online, that you are only given a 30 day window to order pics. (Right?) So, I just wanted clarification that my 60-day window to activate the cards is right.

Just got back from 13 days. We had 135 photos on ours. Still in the process of copying and adding the extras. I think it is a good deal.....and it was a lot of fun to do.
We were told the max is 1000 photos....and someone over the holidays got 995 of them in!!

So you can buy the cd at Disney? how long does it take them to do the cd for you?

Donna

Is there anywhere at Downtown Disney that can burn the CD? We would like to do it the last day of our trip and may not be in the parks that day.

The upgraded price of 125 now includes all borders and editting that you do to your pics. This is only available if you purchase online and not in the parks.

I was told (by E-mail) that for ordering pictures it's only 30 days. But for the Cd or Movie Disk (not out yet)the Pictures will be held for 60 days from when they were taken not when you activate the card.

When you click on the picture it gives the the good until date in that window.

Please make sure you ask them on the Web-sight as this was before the changes and was good after the changes for me. I'm not sure if they extrended my pictures or if they are doing this from now on.

I have a question about the cd and photopass in general. We are going in Feb and have never been. I love pictures and really want to purchase a cd. Now first off, the photopass people - can you grab them at any time? will they take as many pictures of you as you want or do you have limited time because of other people? Also, the cd - is it compatible with everything? Will I be able to bring it to FedEx Kinkos and print all of them off of the cd there ?? Thanks

NO, you only have 30 days to claim your pics, then 30 days after you claim them to order products.

This is from the Photopass web site:
Photopass web site said:
Photos linked to a Disney's PhotoPass ID will be available online by the morning after the photos were taken. Guests must claim photos within 30 days from when the photos were taken. Photos not claimed within 30 days from which they were taken will no longer be available. Once photos are claimed and associated to a DisneyPhotoPass.com account, they will be available for viewing, sharing and purchasing for 30 days from the date of claiming, after which the photos will be permanently deleted from your account.

Pics with Tink and Stitch added will be available in your Photopass account for the same time as any other pic; you will not lose those pics if you don't buy them in the park.

You can still add borders and graphics to your pics at the Photopass stations in the parks, and crop them, but there are not many borders available at the moment. Also, if you have a lot of pics, adding borders and cropping a lot of them at one time backs up the line. Since you can do all this when you get home, why not save some valuable park time?

Test Track is currently the only ride on the Photopass system. Other rides will be added over the next 2 years, but Disney plans on beginning with rides that don't currently have any photo equipment at all, so it may be quite a while before old faves like Splach and Thunder Mts get retrofitted with Photopass equipment. (Info from Maggie, a Photopass rep who hosted a booth at MouseFest).

FYI: Photopass pics are shot with a Nikon D70s at a resolution of 2000x3008, or 6 megapixels. File sizes range from 600k up to 1.6mb (they are JPGs, so the size depends on the subject of the pic).

I've read on many posts that with the new program you can crop and add borders. Can you add enhancements like tink and stitch, too, or does that need to be done at the parks before you leave?

Thanks...

I just received my Photopass CD and noticed that most of the original pictures are around 1500 kb (actually 1200 to 2500), but the pictures that I added a border to end up being considerably smaller. For example, an original file is 1,638 kb and the file where I did no cropping and only added a border is 612 kb. From my experience with software where I change a picture and save a copy of it, I'm guessing that their software is not set to save the copy at the highest possible quality setting.

I'm actually disappointed that all of my pictures that I worked so hard to add borders to appear to have ended up at a lower quality. :confused3

It also appears that any pictures that I "enhanced" with borders are scaled to a 5 X 7 picture. So, if you print a 4 X 6, the ratio is different, and you'll lose a bit of the picture. Depending on how your picture is positioned you might have to choose between the border/icon you added and the top of someone's head or perhaps the top of the castle or Epcot ball.

These issues would only be noticeable to someone who is used to working with Photo editing software and who prints the pictures. To those who only view the photos on the PC, I don't think you'd ever notice.

I just wondered if anyone else who has actually received the CD recently (as in the last 2 weeks) with the borders has noticed this.

The loss of quality in the modified pictures is actually significant enough to me that I may send an email to Photopass and ask them about it.

Thanks everyone for all the great info. Makes me feel a bit better. I think we will try to get as many pics as we can while we are there and then order the cd from home. Definitely seems like you can make it worth the $125 if you can get a bunch of pics.

I.

So yes they seem to be consitent with what you stated.
No big deal to us as we view the on our Zune or PSP to share and only print at 4X6 or 5X7 so no real big deal for us.

If you buy the cd (with or without added borders), you can print the photos at home or send them to a photo printing company such as snapfish, right? That would be the biggest reason we'd buy the cd--to print photos for grandparents, holiday cards, etc.

And how does the ride photo addition work? I'm assuming you can just copy down a number on the screen or get it from a CM, not that you have to buy the ride photo first in order to get it on your cd.

Thanks!
