I've been reading about the new Photopass (perhaps it's not that new but I last went to WDW in 1999 :rotfl:!!) and I'm a bit confused...

Is it still possible to have photos printed out at the park before you leave or do you have to order everything online? I don't want to do the CD as I'll take thousands of my own photos but a few professional ones as sourvenirs would be nice.

Seems a lot has changed in 12 years :)

We go in October - not long now!! :yay:

Yes you can still have photos printed at the parks.

However if you have more than 6 printed you are better off ordering the photopass CD on pre-order for $99. You then get all the photos and can add borders etc once you get home.

It is also nice to get photos with everyone in them.

Thanks for that. Are the photos really that expensive?! I'm happy just to have a couple of "official" photos.

you're better off pre-ordering the CD for $99

we just got back and had 186 pictures on our photopass!!!!
all of them beautiful!!!!

definitely worth the $99!!!!!

Last year the cheapest photo you could have printed was around $20 plus tax. To be honest, if you buy more than three, you may as well pay the little extra and buy the CD (you must do this before you leave to get it at $99 otherwise it is $150). You will have a photopass card anyway so the trouble is, when you go to choose which ones to print, you WILL find yourself torn between the rest you leave behind and it is very likely that you will decide to purchase an extra one or two anyway. Unless you are only spending a few days in the Disney parks and won't have the opportunity to make use of the service, I really think you are better off doing it this way.

Yes, it's well worth pre-paying! We had well over 200 photos, by the time I had added every possible border combination it was probably about 600  even if you never print a lot of them out it's still nice to have them all on a cd. Even better is to put them on a digital photo frame slideshow :goodvibes

OK - so do you find that you spend most of your time in the parks looking for Photopass photographers and having photos taken? Really got to make the most of every minute we're got :)

We're going for 1 week. Have got a day trip booked to Kennedy Space Centre for our space mad DS! The rest of the time we'll spend in Disney parks.

I think you need to decide how many pictures you feel would justify the $100 spend for you. We never really 'look' for the photographers, but then we know what they look like and where they usually are, which helps. With the CD you get a copyright release to all your images and you can print them when you get home (once the CD has arrived in the mail). You also have 30 days to add borders to them and you get these edited versions on the CD as well as your originals if you choose to go with the editing option (no extra charge for this).

Of course you do have to pay for prints once you get back, but prints are cheap and you can get them done for a fraction of the price and in your own time in the future if need be. I feel it is well worth it, but having said that, we go for at least 2 weeks and spend most of our time in the parks.

Photographers are commonly found in front of each park's main icon, as well as at most of the character greeting spots and they usually take more than one shot when you stop for a photo. We just stop when we see a photographer so never feel like we are wasting valuable park time. I can understand if you feel you only want to get a few good pictures. If this is truly all you want, then fair enough - just buy the prints. But it really is easier said than done. I often stop to check our photos at one of the photo centres during our trip and feel thankful that I have pre purchased the CD, if for no other reason than that it would be so hard to choose just a few out of all the pics on there.

we didn't look for photographers.....and we didn't go out of our way to find them...but still we ended up with lots of nice pictures....

one of my favorite places is at the epcot character photospot....a one stop shop sort of place...you wait in line once and then you have pictures with mickey, minnie, pluto, goofy and donald....probably the best organized of all the character spots...

I couldn't agree more!! We only stopped there once last trip and must have walked out with about 12 - 15 Photopass shots - and that was even with no PP photographer for Goofy (well there was one but he was having a chat with someone and we couldn't have been bothered so gave my camera to a CM to get some photos).

If you can get there by 10.30 am the line is never too long and it also moves really quickly

on our second day at epcot, we went straight there from rope drop...we were second in line, and done in 3 minutes......then we continued on to soaring from there...
but before that, when i went to epcot with just DD and DSIL on one afternoon, we got into a 35 minute line.....sounds bad, but it wasn't at all...we waited once - 35 minutes and then we went from character to character with no wait....brilliant!!!!

It's like a character meal - but without the calories ;) The only other one I can think of where they used to (I say that as Toontown was still there in October) have multiple character greetings with one line, was the Fairies and Princesses. Those lines were always notoriously long and I have to say, the Fairies were the worst, every time. Character Spot rocks :cool1:

i don't know why they don't organize more places that way...they could do it at animation in DHS....instead they have a million different lines there, so you have to get into each one....very time consuming....they should do it the same way as the character spot...

You won't have to look far for them - they hang out at most of the main photo ops in the parks - eg: MK at the main entrance, half way down Main St, on the Hub etc. As well as taking your photopass picture they are always willing to take one with your own camera too. Don't forget to ask the photographer if he does anything 'special' - I love our photo of Simba in my arms :goodvibes

I don't know what the current price is per photo, but I would estimate that if you wanted to buy a few of them then it would work out cheaper to pre-pay :)

at the move it shake it street party in the Magic Kingdom, there were quite a few photopass photographers working the crowd...
one of them took a whole bunch of pictures of DD and DSIL as they danced and then gave a card to DD at the end of the parade....we have about 10 great pictures of the two of them dancing with the characters in the street!!

for example:

Ah, how cool! It's pics like that you treasure :) I don't think you realise at first how many photo's you can rack up! and we didn't go out of our way to find the photopass guys either. We did have our immediate family with us (we got married in Fl last year) so we did have quite a few passes between us all, especially the individual ones you get at the water parks. I will definitely be purchasing one again next year :goodvibes

we had 20 photopass cards when we were done (between the 6 of us in the group and the multiple cards we got at the waterparks).....
on the last night, i took them to the photopass place in MK and the CM there put them all onto one card....

I wish I knew about that last year! I spent ages putting in all our codes! I will deffo do that next year, as we are going with family and friends so we're bound to have lots of cards again :)

Once you have your CD and have chosen your borders, is it possible to make a photobook using somewhere like Photobox?
