I'm looking to join a March photopass group....seems there are some real experts on the Budget Board. I'm a little nervous about joining with strangers....it would be a huge heartbreak to be out money if someone didn't follow through. Anyway...my question is.....I see people talking about a March group, but everyone is going to WDW. Can you join WDW and DL photopasses?

Yes you can combine them.

I was part of a September photopass group, though it was organized mainly here on the DLR boards (and a bit over on mouseplanet).

From all of the shares, I've only seen one problem, and that problem was with ONE of the WDW photopass groups from the budget boards, and that problem was b/c of a leader who was a scammer extraordinaire. If you read all through their problems you see that some people tracked her down and she was doing bad things all over the place. But just one group. AND they ended up getting everything back together, with a bit more money and time (partially b/c I mentioned that my September pictures were still on my account well into December, and that they can and will help people when they goof).

All that said! I found it to be so great that when we went in December, I paid the full prepurchase price for it. I don't know if you've had experience with professional photography, but 99 bucks for the rights to your pictures is a really low price. If you think of it as $x for the pictures you'll never justify it, but $x for the license to those pictures...that can be worth it. This is the link to the prepurchase page, just in case it interests you to do it on your own. http://www.disneyphotopass.com/previsitcdplan.aspx If you come back and didn't get any good pictures, or forgot to do it, let them know within a certain timeframe and you can get a refund.

Well, I've overanswered, but I like photopass, either shared or paid on one's own. :)

Thanks Bumbershoot...overanswering is always extra info around here that is VERY much appreciated. You're right about the cost on the rights of the pictures....not sure you can really put a dollar amount on that so that's a great way to look at it. So I just want to make sure I have this right

*If you purchase the 99 in advance cd..you can edit and do all the fun extras
*59 and you can get the cd of pictures but with no editing capabilities
*129 if you purchase after the trip or in the park itself?

My ex SIL and her family are going the same week so I think we'll play it safe and go in on the 99 one with her and her family. We did some photopass pictures last year and bought a couple individually ...WHAT A WASTE of money. Not that the pictures were bad or anything...just that we would have gotten so much more for our money if we had gotten the entire cd. That and we figured oh we got the pictures in front of the castle on the first day we dont' need anymore, another mistake. Those pictures we got were horrible...either we were cut off or the top of the castle was cut off. I think I'll use a PP photographer everytime I see one even if there are repeated pictures.

The 99 prepurchase and the 125 post-trip purchase are fully editable with borders and signatures (see the last pages of my trip reports for examples). Both of them are actually ordered (backing up...with the prepurchase, you basically buy a code that they email you and you have to keep that email...then you order the CD when you get home) after you get home, and once you're done editing, you either put the code of the prepurchase in (which covers the shipping) or you just order it. My CD was mailed not even 24 hours after I ordered. Alas I ordered it right before Christmas so it got stuck in holidays and weekends!

And yes, the 59 is put right into your hand, but the only editing you can do is at home with photoshop or whatever. Might be best for hardcore scrapbookers who will embellish photos on their own, and who are good at photo editing on their own.

I agree that buying individually, unless you truly only have ONE picture that you want (and know you will never want copies), is a waste of money. And especially if you haven't seen the picture like you hadn't seen the castle picture...what a bummer!

If you take your kiddo to see Jack Sparrow on PL once or twice and there are photopass people with him, I can almost guarantee that even the full 99 will be worth it. Everything else is just gravy. :upsidedow If he gets a pirate sword (or even a lightsaber, or even a lightsaber keychain like my guy had), Captain Jack has responded well to that, and will take the time to play with the sword (or lightsaber) and really interact with him. My guy hasn't even see POTC (other than ads, or what he's seen while waiting at Circuit City) but he knows and loves Captain Jack!

Also, at DCA you can do the "stitch is popping out of the ground" picture, and in front of the castle at DL you can do the "ooh tinkerbell is in my hand" picture. Be sure to ask for those!

Well you have definitely sold me on it....I will for sure be taking advantage of the cd this time around. We missed out on Captain Jack last year...we saw him but of course were unable to get in line before we were headed off by a CM saying he was leaving. My son is CRAZY about pirates....and mine too has never seen POTC, he wouldn't sit throught it nor would I allow it at his age. Great idea about the sword....we just might have to take advantage of that. THANK YOU!

You are welcome. I hope you get enough wonderful pictures that you feel you've gotten your money's worth!

I did the preorder, and after we got back, I thought I might cancel it, because due to many challenges, we never really got that many pictures taken. 19, I think. But... when I went online and started checking out the editing options, they were so cool. I was able to crop out to just one person and add sprinkles of magic and frames and whatnot. I ended up with over 50 pictures. And of course, if I want to edit them any further with photoshop, I certainly can! Photoshop does not have all the cool disney stuff to embellish the pics with though.
