Hello! My friends and I are going in August, and we are staying off property. We are considering purchasing the memory maker photopass package, but I have a few questions. A: Are we able to do this since we are staying off property (most people I have talked to add it to their room/ticket package. B: You purchase it for the duration of your trip and not just certain days, right? C: If you indeed purchase for the duration of your trip, how does Disney know what the duration of our trip is? (For example, we are having one park day, one rest day, another park day, and a rest day before we return home. However, we are going to be eating character meals at the resorts on the "rest days"/ possibly taking more photopass pictures so how does Disney know how many days we need memory maker for?) Thank you for your help and time!

You can purchase it staying offsite - it can be added to your MDE account where you link your tickets to make FP, that can access from the app on your phone. To get the preorder price you need to order before trip, at least three days before to have pictures included on your first day - I do at least 5 days ahead just to be sure. If you are not getting magic bands, then the photographer will give you a card when you take first photo, and you can scan it each time, then add card number to your account to view photos.(You can also get a new one each day if you want or forget to bring it). It will be good for your whole trip - you have up to 30 days to take photos once you start, so you will be fine. Also, just an FYI that character meals do not have photographers for when they come to your tables, so those you take yourself (you can always ask a waiter to help if you want a family shot). They do have one if there is a shot when you enter with one character who does not walk around, like at the princess meals. Also at the resorts there are sometimes Photopass photographers in the lobby taking a picture. After your trip you have 45 days from when first photo was taken to edit and download photos before they expire.

So there aren't any Disney photographers at any of the character meals (aside from the exception noted above where a character is acting as "host" while you are in line and before you are seated)? Good to know....

Thank you!!! That's super helpful!

Not to steal this post but can you get magic bands if staying offsite? To make it easier for the memory maker ?

I actually know this one haha! As long as you have enough time for it to ship before your trip, anyone can purchase a magic band from the disney site, and you can then link any tickets/fastpasses/ reservations/ photopass stuff you have to it! If you don't have enough time for it to ship, if you're still so inclined you can purchase one while there from the many giftshops. (You can also just use your ticket itself in the same manner if you do not want to purchase one.)

Will they ship magic bands to Canada? I thought I had read that they won't.
And, is there any advanage to having one as opposed to I guess making it easier to scan?

According to Disney, when you order, if you see they do not ship to your country (it'll tell you on the order page.) If they do not ship to your country, you pick them up when you get to your Disney Resort, or if off property, you can put the address of your off property hotel to send them there.

Won't ship to Canada, and that includes purchased bands and free ones from staying onsite or buying an AP. No advantage other than it may be easier than pulling out a card to scan for tickets and memory maker. Can't set up using it to pay if not staying onsite.

You have to have a band to get some of the automatic ride photos that would be included in your Memory Maker package. Mine train, Pirates, and a few other do not have touch points outside the ride. It reads the long rage chip in the band to get the photo to your account.

And you can buy bands at the parks. If you decide to do that.
