Photopass in DLR

WOW!! Thank you to all who took the time to explain what I feared was happening!! I really am sad that they took this away. What a great way to wrap up my Halloween Trip 03: great border to pick from and make my pictures go from great to TOTALLY AMAZING!!! I too, will notify DL of my disappointment, but as pointed out, don't know what will happen! Man, that really is a bummer!!!!!!!

Just went through my usual routine of seeking out the photopass and I see that changes. What a disappointment, I've bought these about 5 times now previously. I guess maybe we'll either pay as we go, or try and get all our photo's in one day with this new thingy. I really though the last version added a lot to the experience, but $39 a day is a bit much on a 5 day trip, maybe I'll buy two days worth...spend a full day in each park and hope nothing breaks.

Why did they have to take the borders away? I loved adding that to my one and only PP picture purchase.

One has to wonder that if Disney refuses to use guests cameras to take pictures how prepared will they be at Town Hall/email/etc. for the waves of negative feedback to an already unpopular change? We're already on the fence about doing Photopass next trip; leaning toward skipping it and using our camera alone.

I purchased the photopass+ just as they were ending the product. If I didn't have that option, I think I would spend a day focusing on taking pictures and just purchase for that day especially if you have a Character breakfast planned. You don't have to commit ahead of time to buying anything so just keep loading up your photopass card, review them at home and then decide if a day has a lot of photos worth purchasing.

Beejai, I totally agree. Normally I just lump it and pay the extra (after all, when we are flying all the way from Aussieland, it doesn't add that much to the over all price), but my hubby is totally bulking at this price. Looks like this Oct will be photopass free.

I did just send an email in to Disneyland to see what they have to say about the product. If enough of us tell them how very disappointed we are, they might do something about it. maybe...

We returned a few weeks ago and we found it was not a problem at all for the photographers to take pictures using your camera! Keep in mind without the ability to add borders, this really is the same thing - unless magic shots are your thing, they were never my big favorite so I don't mind missing those. I found the quality of the pictures they took with our devices was just as good as what I saw added to the PP account - they were great and they would even use multiple devices when my kids wanted photos on their camera and I wanted some on mind. They had lots of patience!

So that might help - just make sure you hand them your camera/phone and you should have lots of memories - for FREE!!

This was not our experience - the photographers offered, we did not have to ask - they seemed to be very aware of the changes and were very accommodating - they took lots of pictures with our cameras.

I hate this. I didn't do so good taking my own pictures last trip and the photos were invaluable. I am going to now have to pay 200 bucks for my vacation pictures. It's awful. There should be a cap. Like 39 dollars a day but no more than 99 dollars.

The flip side to this is for those who have paid the daily cost to use the service of the photopass photographers they shouldn't have to 'wait' for the photographer to finish giving 'free' service to other guests.

If there is a wait then paying for the photo pass or not you have to wait in it just like anyone else. We can always opt to buy the pictures after the fact. When we wait to meet a character we can take our time when it comes and if that means using our camera so be it. I purchased the PP+ several times and never felt it made me more entitled than other guests who did not have the pass. Have to say, I am a little taken back by such a comment!

Aloha,

Disney has also stopped their Photopass memories...no more calendars, scrap books, etc...which is greatly discouraging. Using our family and photopass pixs, I made calendars for my wife and children. I also made a 60 page book of the trip. An outstanding memory collection. As of today, no more.

You can make a Disney photobook through Shutterfly and I believe Costco as well. I am working on one in Shutterfly right now.

Wow. :sad2:

ANYwho.....totally tardy to the party here as I haven't really kept up on the Disney info and didn't even realize they took away the PP+ option and now have made it a daily thing.....good thing I stumbled upon this thread ahead of time instead of just being "surprised" when I went to order something that no longer exists! LOL

This really bites as I will now have to lug around the DSLR on top of the rest of the crap we take in the park with us just to get some nice shots! You best believe that the photo peeps WILL be taking multiple pictures with my DSLR as well my phone too after pulling these shenanigans!! LAME!

I don't see why you'd be taken aback and no offense was meant. Yes you can take as many pics as you want and decide if you want to keep them if you are using your photopass card and/or your own camera and yes, you could do this before BUT looking at the responses it seems ppl are frustrated with the new pricing and now are making a point of using their personal cameras more than ever. I dont have a fancy camera so the photos I get from the photogs are it for us. I'm not feeling entitled I'm feeling concerned.

The person above me is rolling their eyes and saying 'wow' yet in the same post they are making the point of saying they will be using their own camera more than ever because of 'shenanigans'. Not to single out the above as this is a sentiment I've read echoed by many people who are ( understandably ) frustrated with the change of service I'm just not sure how that is less entitled than my comment.

Visitors pay for all sorts of added features, dining packages for one. Do they have a sense of entitlement because they've paid for a better viewing spot? I've read people cancelling their dining package because the seating was just as good as it was for somebody who just showed up - there is no value there. If another visitor has paid $39/day or $195 for a 5 day PP+ then shouldn't there be a 'value' attached to it?

In my case I've already paid for mine, it's not like I can cancel and just dedicate a single day to getting our photos taken ( the only photos we will get as a family ). It just sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth and I have buyers remorse because of lack of perceived value I guess.

In your original comment you clearly stated:

Suggesting you should not have to wait behind others who have not paid in advance was my point. Perhaps it was not worded as you intended. I agree that many are frustrated and Disney will respond in time accordingly I am sure - will people like any further changes? Who knows. But this is the new reality - more $ for less value.

If Disney finds they have more people clogging up lines with their own cameras (without buying their product as well), it's their own fault for getting greedy. They could have had a hefty little price increase and still had a viable product. It's just a complete non starter now. Going from $69 to $200 is just insane.

To clarify I have not paid the daily cost of the PP+. I am imaging this from the perspective of a person who is spending anywhere from $39 - $200+ for the service of having photographers take family photos.

As mom2rtk just posted, people are annoyed at Disney and are saying it's their fault but the people who will bear the brunt of the ire for Disney's cash grab at least in the short term are those that still want to buy the pass because of the service it provides. Eventually it might hit Disney in the pocketbook but they might turn to limiting personal camera use if they find the product isn't selling vs. decreasing or repackaging the product.

I think everyone can agree that the pricing of the Pass is very high, so if you are willing to paying top dollar for a product then there should be a clear difference between what you are paying for and what others are getting for free. I don't think that is unreasonable and I think it's comparable to the dining package model.

The difference between your comment and mine is the mere fact you clearlly imply that those who "paid" for a service should be entitled to push aside and not have to wait like those in line who are getting a "free" service. Doesn't make any sense when those who paid for the original PP+ (as I did last year when I was there) still wait in the same line for photos that the others who didn't have the PP+ do.

This service being paid for is hardly like a dining reservation, that's a poor comparison since the PP+ doesn't give you a priority nor does it get you to the front of the photo line. The "privelage" with the previous PP+ is all the professional pictures/ride pictures/character meal pictures in one convenient location without having to lug around a good personal camera to get nice shots for memories or having to pick and choose which photos to purchase if you can't afford to buy them all...

Didn't realize asking a photographer to take pictures with a good camera as well as my phone is being "entitled" as I'll be waiting in the SAME line with others who have this new photo pass. It would be no different being behind a large group of friends who all have a phone and/or camera and request pictures with each of their cameras/phones vs. ONE person with one camera and one phone asking for photos on both. Lines are long anyways and I'm sure the few extra seconds it takes to snap a few extra pictures isn't going to be the end of the world for those who feel because they have the PP that they shouldn't have to wait for those who didn't purchase that service.

I'm lucky to have a good camera to get great photos that are comparable to the ones that the photographers would take with their own cameras they have on them. I by all means had no quelms paying the original PP+ price for multi day photos as it was a super deal but to have to pay daily now?? Pardon me for thinking this is another way for Disney to rip people off over something that wasn't broken to begin with.

But that's the thing, there isn't any noticeable perk now for buying the new PP nor was there really one with the original PP+ that distinguished people in a line. Now if there was a perk like jump to the front of the line if you paid for a PP then by all means it's justifiable that those who paid for them should get that perk. But seeing as there is no legitimate "line perk" then I don't think anyone should feel a privilege just because they paid for something that others felt wasn't worth to pay for.

Best believe Disney will hear further grief from guests if they decide to limit personal cameras and photography because it was THEIR own fault they made a bad business decision to make the PP per day price instead of per visit price....just sayin....
