Photopass CD price rise

Hi all

I want to buy this for my upcoming November trip but I notice on the Photopass site it says that it will be liable for import tax etc (which for the uk is likely to add about 30% to the cost between VAT and durty and any Royal Mail handling fee).

Anyone been stung by the Customs & Excise or is this really a safe bet to order ?

Thanks

J

You only pay customs charges if the value is above £15 (I think it may have recently changed to £9?) and since a CD is not worth that (you can buy one for pennies) you won't get customs charges :D

When we went, I pre-ordered, including the photo book. We ended up with so many pics they had to put them on two CD's, plus we had the book, plus we had some kind of additional CD that had some stock images on. We never got any additional import charges or taxes. Just a regular delivery.

Plus I think if you pre-order less than 90 days before you return, and then when you come back realise that you didn't have enough photos taken to make it worthwhile, you can claim a full refund.

Oh wow, that's quite a hike!

If we pre order now, will that still be valid for when we buy the CD or will be only get $99 credit towards the new priced CD?

Remember the price rise is from the current price if $149.95 to $169.95 - so it's going up about £15

$99 is the pre-order price - and I guess this will go up to about $110 / $120, but the facebook article doesn't mention anything about the pre-order price - so you never know!

They call it a 'credit', and by that they mean your pre-order is good for one CD when you get back (regardless of any price increases in between)

Final tip - if you pre-pay, make sure you get your money's worth. Don't be scared to ask the photopass guy to take multiple shots of your party (with kids, without kids, solo, etc) after all you have paid and have waited your turn, and sometimes the pics are hit and miss - so best to be safe than sorry. You can also ask them to take an additional pic with your own camera if you want. They will oblige if you ask.

I couldn't agree more.
We did 450+ photos this year, and some of them are blurred, other were off-centre. Remember that photopass photographer are not professional photographers, they're CM with only basic training, so sometimes you can shoot better photos than they do.
And there are also the elements you cannot control. As an example we have our "very magical photo" of DW and I kissing in front of the Castle ... with some kind of weirdo in an argentinian soccer shirt making a face over our heads while he was standing on the little wall by the partner's statue ... no way we can use that pic ... good for us that we had the same photos taken each and every time we went by a photopass CM

Remember that there is NO limitation on the number of photographs you can put on your CD.
Also remember that when you validate your CD, you have to choose a delivery method. If you choose "download" you'll get download links within 24 hours, and you'll have 10 days to download the archives (zip files of 110 MB each) and this means that you don't have to pay for shipping, that's another $15 less you pay. The only thing you need is to burn the CD yourself ...

The CD had a value of $18 put on the customs label in January. Didn't get stung but I believe that is over now and has gone down to something silly like $13. The new download option is a good one if you have the bandwith.

I think there is a limit to the amount of pics you can download, first time we did it 3 years ago we had 7 or 8 discs so doubt we would be able to download, we do too many.

Thanks for explaining, all per ordered now so all set! :D

I know I got about 700-800 pictures the last time, most were great, few were blurry. Got even more once we added borders and signatures etc :D

Can't wait to do it again :D

$99 seems a good deal to me, but are the photos any good, and are there any on-ride shots included? I didn't think we'd bother with this, but it seems very popular - should I get it?

Thanks in advance! Catherine

You also have about $12 delivery ontop if you don't download the pics.

Most photos are OK, odd one not good, some are excellent. Just remember it doesn't matter if you do 100 or 1,000 it costs no more so have lots taken, even when you think you are repeating youself just do it. Sometimes people in the background ruin a pic, lighting, poor camerman etc so better with lots. After adding borders I think we had over 3,000 the first time we did it.

Rides, only Test Track as far as I know. Some meals are added like Cinderellas Royal Table & Akershus, not sure if there are more.

Links to my photos, you will see which are Photopass, they have the borders around.
First 25 on this link http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/wayneg1/August 2011/?start=all

Not the 1st pic but the following 17 are all photopass. http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/wayneg1/August 2010/?start=all

Thanks everyone again - ordered and paid for :thumbsup2

I also pre ordered mine. Do you know if you can pre purchase more than one? They never expire :)

Regarding the customs duty, in 2010 our photos came on 7 CDs (three double disc covers and one single) plus a photo gallery CD I ordered and I wasn't charged any duties on it. :goodvibes

Never bought a photopass before so if I preorder mine will I get to keep every photo that was taken and print them at home?

Yes, each and every one of them :thumbsup2 You also have the option to add borders to each photo and can add more than one border to each picture and save the edited ones as well as the originals so if you make a point of getting yoru photos taken while you are there, you could end up with a healthy number of photos, which are yours to keep and print and do as you please with, for your personal use :)

This is a good question. What about creating another account in your husband/partners name and ordering a 2nd? You each then have a credit to use on your next couple of holidays.

We will more than likely order an additional copy of the photobook for my parents and I would be bothered having 2 credits in my account that they would automatically use on the 2nd book.

Wayne, just looked through some of your pictures and they are fab! Made me glad I pre-ordered yesterday! :thumbsup2

I don't think you will have a problem with the two credits being used as they are "bundled" credits if you take the CD/Photobook package so they wont use a credit for a photobook alone if you buy two Photobook/CD ones.

I know I can open another account, but wondered if there is any point doing so if I can add another CD to my existing one. Chances are in 2 years time I will have forgotten my other login :lmao:

I understand that the pre order CD is going up as well. I believe I read it on the Facebook post Wayne refers to although I can't recall now, however it was a comment by Disney which confirmed this. I went back to it but there are so many comments on there now that it will be a nightmare to locate the post. I would suggest that anyone intending to pre order does so now in any event as a price hike looks inevitable across the board and to be fair, they have not increased the pre order price for quite some years now.

Actually they might as once purchased they appear as seperate credits in your cart.

I always order my book at a different time to the CD.

Now I need to get my editing done for Feb so I can pre-order for June! :goodvibes
