So i preordered the photopass cd and now I am doing the edits how do i make sure I can print the photos with borders and add ons in 4x6 and 5x7 how do i change the sizes when i save them?

Thanks

For every photo you want to print as a 4x6 (or size other than 5x7) you have to save it. You take the original copy of the photo, change the size using the drop down menu on the upper right side, make whatever edits you want - borders, etc. - then you click save as copy.

Now if you want that same photo with different borders, you go back to the original and do the same steps, change the size, add your borders, etc. Save as copy. Repeat ad nauseum.

The default size is 5x7, so any that you will want to print in other sizes have to be separately edited and saved in that size.

That's why one photo from the PP people can turn into 10+ when you're editing depending on sizes, borders, etc.

Once you save your images to a photopass cd can you print them anywhere like a local Walgreens. If so does it matter the size it is saved on the CD

Yes, it matters, unfortunately. If you just add a border to a photo that's native 5x7 and don't change the size, when you get it printed as 4x6, the borders or parts of them will be cut off on the 4x6 print. I know this - it happened to me the first time we purchased the CD!

Thanks that was what I was looking for do I have to save the original photos as 4x6 as well? I am going to have so many photos when I am done lol.

Its in the order prints drop down right?

Yes, I think that's what the box is titled - it has choices for all the sizes, it also has a "digital download" choice, I've never used that - I think that's only for ordering prints as digital downloads on the PP site, not for the CD. It also had choices for ordering stickers, too, I think.

If you want the original photo as 4x6, you can try and save a copy of it that way, but if I'm recalling correctly from my last CD, I think when I did that it kept giving me a message that said "you haven't made any edits to save". So I think I just gave up on that - all my original PP prints seemed to have printed fine when I printed them as 4x6s, it's just the border ones that were problematic.

It's a pain -- make sure you block out some serious time for your editing depending on how many photos you started with! It's still worth it to me - I just hate the editing part (we've done 4-5 PP CDs)!

are you limited on how many edits per photo? i'm having trouble with changing the sizes now, its not saving them.

Thanks

No, you aren't limited, but you can only edit the original. It will save each edit as a copy.

thanks thats what my problem was I was trying to save a different size of the copy. You guys are great hopefully I don't have any more questions but I know where to come if I do have them.:)

OH! Wow, thanks so much for this thread! I have been going through adding borders, etc., to our trip photos from last week and hadn't even thought of the 4x6 issue.

Here's a question, though: if I save the same photo with a border in 4x6 and 5x7 format, can you tell which is which when you get the CD? Are they labeled somehow, or can you tell by file size, or what? Hate to spend lots of time saving them all again if it'll be hard to tell!

Thanks! :goodvibes

I don't have the answer to that one! Believe it or not, I had already done 4 PP CDs before that ever entered my mind! So whether I was lucky in printing or what - I'm not sure. It is difficult to tell when you're looking at them on your screen.

I did have a few prints last time where the borders were very very close to the edge (w/o actually being cut off) and I wondered if I had mistakenly chosen the 5x7 image to be printed as a 4x6.

Someone had an idea about how to tell but I can't remember what it was - pixel count or something.

I'm really confused now... I think I will be printing mostly 4x6s, maybe some 5x7s, and few if any 8x10s. If I go through and save every good photo as a 4x6 and 5x7 (with and without borders), will that do the trick to provide maximum flexibility?

Thanks!

Yes, the 4x6 will also print out as an 8 x 12, Costco prints that size, I am not sure where else, but you can get standard mats and frames for this size as well.

Yes, although there really isn't a need to save the ones without borders in different sizes. It's easy enough to crop those as needed.

The default size is 5x7, so any that you will want to print in other sizes have to be separately edited and saved in that size.

Everything I have read and seen says 4x6 is the native size. Even when you go to order a download a box pops up to show how 5x7 will be cropped.

And I read it here:
Disney's PhotoPass PhotoDownload - Individual Disney's PhotoPass photos can be purchased and delivered via download making them instantly available to you in your choice of size (remember that the photos are natively 4x6 and other proportions will involve automatic cropping).

Can anyone verify if this is accurate before I order a download?

I'll take your word for it - I must have been confused. I know Brad's stitchkingdom has all the right info! sorry for the misinformation!

(but that does confuse me - because if that was the case, why would you have to save the photo as 4x6 when you add a border? When I didn't change the size and added a border, my 4x6 prints were messed up with the borders cut off. Honestly, I love the Photopass idea and the CD - but I really really hate the whole editing thing on Disney's site!)

When I view the photos on the photopass website, the default size shows 5x7as selected in the dropdown box, and the photo itself changes slightly when I change the dropdown box to 4x6, so does this not suggest that they are all in 5x7 format? And that you therefore must save them separately as 4x6? Help? :confused3 This is more confusing that it should be!

The original size is 4x6, but when you edit the picture, it defaults to 5x7, so if you want to print a picture with a border as a 4x6, you will need to save it as a 4x6.

Don't ask me why. :confused3

Aha! Yes, you're right! :thanks: From the "help" section:

Important information - Making prints from the image files on Disney's PhotoCD: Unedited image files on Disney's PhotoCD are in a 4" x 6" aspect ratio. Any photos you choose to make edits to will be saved in the aspect ratio size you choose. The default aspect ratio size for edited photos is 5" x 7". If you would like your edited photos to be in a 4" x 6" aspect ratio, select "two 4x6 prints" from the order prints box on the Enhance Photos tab. Then click "Save As Copy". You do not have to actually order the photos or add them to your cart in the 4" x 6" aspect ratio to be able to save them for your PhotoCD order.

Wow - thanks so much for this thread! We got back late last night and I'm just looking at the photopass pics for the first time (we preordered). I had no idea there was so much involved, but as I play with my first pic, I can understand what you guys mean, but would never have figured it out! :thumbsup2
