Photokina usually means the announcement of new photography gear. What are you expecting or hoping for this year?

For me, I'm looking forward to Canon replacing the venerable 5D. I'm very likely going to buy the replacement if it is announced and meets my expectations. If not, I'll get a 50D.

I'm curious (but not too hopeful) to see if anyone follows Olympus's lead and announces mirrorless cameras with reasonably large sensors. I've love the idea of a pocket camera with an SLR class sensor in it. I may even get the Olympus in a generation or two.

I expect that Canon will be announcing the G10 as a successor to my G9. I'm unlikely to bite on that. I don't use the G9 as much as I thought I might.

It would be nice if Adobe announced a release date for the new Photoshop suite soon. I never upgraded from CS2 to CS3 and I think I'll probably get CS4 when it comes out. I really want to know about the packages they'll offer as I'm very interested in doing Flash development. I just don't want to buy anything this late in their product cycle.

Agreed on the G9. We bought one specifically for disney this Nov, but Im going to sell it and snap up a D300 instead. I thought the G9 would be small and no trouble to pocket carry, perfect for disney. But the ISO noise is horrendous at ISO 400, the shutter lag and write time for RAW makes it borderline worthless to me. Plus the lens is not wide enough for my style.

Anyway, I would love to see a "middle lens" of 17-50mm for the D3. I use the 17-35 and with it was just a tad longer. the 14-24 and 24-70 are too much weight/size for me to carry around to get the coverage for my motocross photography.

I would also like a 50mm 1.4 AFS

I am still hoping for a P&S with a decent size sensor and a halfway accurate viewfinder. The G10 could be one, sharing some parts with the Rebel Xs, but it seems unlikely.

A SLR with a sensor optimized for more dynamic range instead of pixels would be nice. Oh yes, and ISO down to 12 or even lower so we don't have to use ND filters.

My student discount ends in December so I hope CS4 is out by then.

waiting to see the price of the Sony A900... they leaked just enough for me to hold off on getting a nikon D3.... If the rumors on the price are even close, I'll be selling my Nikon lenses... just a few more days.

Shudder.....(selling D3):scared1: . I LOVE mine, saving to get a second backup D3 as Im not used to shooting weddings with a single body.

what did you hear for the price..

early rumors were that it would be near $2,000... that seemed very low, but if Sony is really trying to jump start their DSLR business it is possible.

initially I had heard 3000-5000

the day after I bought my 2 A700s I heard the 2000 price..

if that price is true I'll be selling one of my A700s to get one..

Got what I was waiting for with the Canon 50D. I've been reading up on longer lenses (300+) and many people say the 100-400 IS is due for an update, that would have been nice. I need more reach but really want the flexibility of a zoom!!!

I'm hoping that Pentax finally releases their long-promised DA* (high-end and weathersealed) 60-250mm F4 lens. Apparently it was ready to go a few months ago and the story is that they modified it to make it full-frame compatible...

It's pretty much assumed in the Pentax community that they'll announce a new entry-level camera, something very small to compete with the D60, XS, E420, etc. A full-frame Pentax will be coming but who knows if it'll be introduced here?

I'm kind of hoping that there won't be a K20D update... I don't want to "have to upgrade" yet. :lmao:

Other than the 60-250mm, there's not much else that interests me. Lately, I'm more interested in very old lenses than very new ones, and I'm happy with my camera body.

I'm hoping Nikon announces a couple primes that will auto-focus with the D40/D60 cameras. I love my D60 more than I loved my D50, but am hoping they will update the famous 50mm 1.8 prime that's awesome for portraits. My eyes aren't good enough for manual focusing so I need an autofocus!

.

have you looked at the sony's that have DRO..??
