Photography Question

My DF and I are going with Rhett Pyle. He's charging us $2400 for unlimited hours, we get to keep all the proofs, and he is giving us an engagement photo shoot for free. We shopped aroung for a while and we felt that Rhett worked best with our budget and our situation, needing him for about 7-8 hours, and his work is amazing!

Like everything in a Disney wedding its normally cheaper to go with the outside vendor (i think thats why they have those wonderful minimums), but i do have to point out that the disney photographers are not the photopass CMs in the park. They are professional photographers who work with diseny, some who even have their own business. So the quality of photos cant be compared.

And sorry to say ChocolateMouse the dvd doesn’t give much more info….Thats why its great to have the girls here on the DIS….

My own personal experience was that Randy outshone Disney Photography Services. In fact, really there was no comparison. We subbed our package coverage for the Honeymoon shoot. I haven't written about the honeymoon shoot in my TR but,

Before I had even said a word to DH, when the shoot was over DH turned to me and said "Boy am I ever glad that we had Randy!"

And when you look at the prices...well. I mean considering we would have had to buy the CD from Disney if we stuck with them (at $1000) because there were so many people back home who we felt we should send prints to because we weren't having them down....it just made good sense.

In terms of quality...these are 3 photopass pictures taken the same day as our Honeymoon shoot with our honeymoon pictures here:

ForKeeps-- Im so glad you posted this!! I think your honesty will help make someones mind up!

I really dont care what people choose- because it doesnt directly benefit me. But I like to see people very happy- especially with something as important as their wedding day! Remember, photos are forever!

Im glad people told me this when I was in my planning stages!

I hope so too. I thought it was funny that DH noticed immediately. Actually you know...my personal experience...was that I received better photos from the photopass people. They seemed to take more flattering angles of us. But ah well....

I just wish I could link to Randy's pictures too...soon I'm sure. He took somewhere over 900 photos. He had to change the card for his camera! You can just tell that he loves what he does.

I too was VERY happy with Disney Photography for my wedding. For me, it was a budget issue. I didn't have $600 (or more) up front to pay for photography. With Disney, it was included in the package. Yes, I chose to wait for the hi-res CD to own my pics...but when it is all said and done, I will have only paid $99 for the hi-res CD (over and above what was already included) for my wedding pics. I did pre-purchase the proofs at $225. So I guess the real total is $325.

I also want to point out that the CM's in Disney's Photographic Services Department are professionals (I believe Randy used to work there). The folks doing the photopass pics are NOT.

As someone else pointed out, I have no vested interest in who anyone chooses. I just get tired of Disney Photo CMs getting a bad rap when they do excellent work.

I'll second this!! The Disney Photopass cast members have nothing to do with Disney Photographic Services--the ones who photograph weddings. Basically, the Photopass people do not have to have any photography experience and just work in the parks. This is, at least, what our photographer for the MK photo shoot explained to us.

This thread is kinda going downhill

I dont people meant that they were directly related(Photopass and wedding photographers). I,myself, had I not known that disney photography and photopass were seperate- would have used photopass to judge disney photography.

Also- others are using it for comparison terms stating that the quality is VERY similar (as you can see in ForKeeps post... she didnt have to say anything- the photos show for themselves).

Many times here on the boards people offer up their HONEST opinions- no matter how bad they go against anyone elses. The good thing about ForKeeps thread is that people can see for theirselves and dont have to take anyones word for it.

I dont think this should start an uproar by any means.

It is only fair that someone post on here (not a link, but photos-- which are easier to see by just clicking this thread) of Disney Photography that you think is of good quality.

Sorry, I should clarify. I didn't mean to suggest that the photopass people and Disney Photoservices were one and the same. A poster had mentioned that she didn't want to have "photopass type pictures." I thought the comparison might help.

I also should say that I don't think the pictures themselves are bad. Nor do I mean to disparage the photographers. But I do think that I owe it to those asking questions to share my personal experience.

My personal experience was that Randy came early, stayed late, was fast, friendly and efficient. His prices can't be beat. His style and ability speaks for itself and obviously I prefer it or I wouldn't have retained him. In addition, he tended to assist me with my actual wedding than the WC did.

When I had my honeymoon shoot my photographer didn't really seem to be into the shoot. He started the session by questioning me as to why I didn't go with Disney and spent the rest of the time getting little barbs in about Randy. To these I just smiled and thought "how unprofessional". I wondered, why does it matter if I went with an outside vendor? They still got their money. :confused3

Again, please keep in mind this is only my personal experience. You should look at all the information and photos out there to help make your decision. I add this only to contribute to the wealth that is already out there.

ForKeeps, I personally thought that your honeymoon portraits were cute. They were definitely a lot better than some of the others that I have seen, but I guess that might just be it, there is no guarantee of who will be taking the photos, therefore there will never be something to compare to if it is all different. When I chose to consider an outside photographer, I based it merely on the extras before I even considered the quality, I knew that with someone else I am more likely to get more personal service and also extra photos, not to mention the rights to all my photos, and everyone I have heard talk about Randy said he almost always comes early. I really looked at these things even before I considered the quality of the photos, and I will admit that most of the wedding photos I have seen by Disney, do look good, its just they don't offer that much.

I would like to ask one more question, I thought that Disney didn't allow any outside vendor in the theme parks?? I read that someone else used Randy for their desert party, is this true or is it something they have changed?

I hope that this thread doesn't go the wrong way, I know everyone has to make choices that sit well with themselves and as long as you are happy with what you choose, then thats all that matters.

Kim

Disney does allow an outside photographer for dessert parties! Depending on your wedding coordinator you might get charged a vendor fee for this (I didnt)

For me there was 1 reason i went with Randy over Disney and that was price!

I had Randy for 8 hours (9 really as he came early and stayed late), all my photographs, The High Res CD's and the copyright to the pictures. I paid $1900.

In comparison Disney would have been $3650 for the 8 hours coverage. If i had wanted the high res CD it would have been another $1000. So for me he was much much cheaper and i thought his work was excellent.

That being said the photographer i had for my MK shoot was also excellent but i found the cost of buying additional photographs so expensive!

Each 4x6 is $13!!! As i have the copyrights to Randy's pictures i can now go buy them here in the UK for 6pence each (around 10cents i think).

I have also booked Randy and I'm so glad I did. I didn't know about him at all until I came across these boards. He is so well respected and I think his photographs speak for themselves, he obviously loves his work.
I have so far only booked him for the intimate package and I just wondered for the other brides that did this, is there an option to add on some time for him to come back later and get some evening shots?
I have seen some beautiful pics at night and I know I'm not allowed an Illuminations Dessert party or anything like that, but I was thinking about the Speciality Cruise and wondering if Randy would be allowed to shoot photos on that? I want to wear my dress and have some nice pics with the fireworks but i don't know if this would be allowed. Anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks

I believe its an additional $200 Summer-Caitlin, but I cant promise that. I know the other girls will know for sure . Haven't heard from you in a while-- I hope you are doing well!

Here are a few of my favorites from Randy-- I picked him for Artistic Quality-- but his low price didnt hurt any either.

Okay Ive added way too many photos here. I am not by any means saying that these photos are awesome because DH and I are in them-- or boasting about ourselves (If you read my TR you will see that I wasnt all that happy with the way I looked on our wedding day)... (Im not digging for compliments - Randy took the photos not me.)

I am more-the-less stating that Randy does good quality work- regaurdless. He could seriously photograph SPECTACULAR photos of pigs playing in a pig pin. Im not joking!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Too Funny!! Can just see it now...

I have a sort of related question. If you have say an MK bridal portrait session and a honeymoon session (i.. multiple sessions with Disney photography) and you buy the high res CD will all of your photos be on there?

Yes you can put them all on one disk
i believe it holds close to 900 high res pics

Maggi I love that pic through the window....so romantic

It would have to be a hi res DVD, but I think you guys meant to say that. If someone gives you a CD with 900 hi res images, they've been very compressed and are no longer high quality.

Very true... computers and I aren’t really friends, we just try to work together....High Res DVD
