Welcome to the Photography Board's Summer Scavenger Hunt, which will run from today, June 12, through September 15.

It is an Assignment thread, so besides fun, its purpose is to get us out using our cameras, striving for good photos and learning new techniques.

As such, pictures should be new whenever possible, but pictures taken in the last few months will be accepted if they fit the categories.

Post as often as you want, in as many categories as you can. It is ok to post a category more than once.

I wish it was possible, but no prizes can be awarded other than recognition for a job well done. However...

After posting fifteen categories (~10%), you will be eligible to put this lovely 2011 Summer Scavenger Hunt Avatar below in your signature.

Now let's get out there and have some fun! :woohoo: Looking forward to seeing what we all come up with!

Nice list Pea n Me. Thanks again for pulling this together!

Let the games begin.

I'm so excited!!! I just got a new camera... and was hoping that we were doing this again!!!

Very excited to see this Pea-n-Me! Thanks so much for doing this again. I am very glad you said we could use pics from a few months ago can be used. I went on 2 vacations in the past few months including WDW 2 weeks ago! But I promise to only use a few, and will be seeking out new pics to take.

Great! We just got back yesterday from the Dream and WDW. Should be able to pull a couple of nice fits from those 1700 pics before I go out and look for more.

I am excited for this too. I feel that I have an eye for candids of children. This will help me train my eye to look for other subjects.

I will be second! We are currently at the beach and I awoke early yesterday for sunrise photos - then while sitting on the beach I thought about the summer scavenger hunt!!! My family is not as excited as I am about it!! LOL!! Thanks so much Pea N Me for posting this!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for coming up with this great list and all the time you have put into it...can't wait to get started. Happy as well that we can use pics from the last few months. Excited to see what everyone comes up with.

I'm excited to get started too. I thought I had my camera in the car tonight when I was out and saw a few things, but apparently I left it in the living room. :headache:

The reason I decided to include pics taken recently is just because there are so many categories to cover and I hate to miss any good pics that fit, especially where we're not doing points this year. I did try to whittle the list down as much as possible, but the ones that were left I just hated to delete, lol. I see from the pics already posted it was a good decision. :thumbsup2 Great showing so far!

Ellen, too funny. My DS was just looking through the list and asked me about the category Yesterday. He said, "What would be something for Yesterday?". I gave him a couple of examples of what it might mean to me, then added, "We'll see what people come up with". Seconds later he saw your picture and noted you could have used it for Yesterday. Ah, yes, I guess so! :rotfl2: He would also like it noted that the Italian Sports Car category is his. :cool2: (I told him then he better find one because I probably won't know one if I see it!)

Hi LInda! Thanks for doing this again - I know how much time it must take to get it all organized. I really appreciate it.

I'm looking forward to hopefully doing better at this Scavenger Hunt than past ones - I recently got a new camera, a Sony NEX5, and I need to practice with it. (And yes, I'm yet another step closer to a dSLR, but the NEX is actually smaller than my Canon SX10.)

And since we can include recent photos, here's one from June 3:

Thank you so much Linda! That is a good list there - I hope I can get some different ones to last year!! ;)

And I'm glad to see that we can include photos from a month or two ago - I also had a vacation and have some photos that I think will apply! Going back over the photos will give me something to do while I "recover" and get back out with my camera!!

Gravestone- Old

The gravestone is of Frank Reid who died in July 20, 1898. He gave his life for the town of Skagway, Alaska. He killed Jefferson "Soapy" Smith a local con artist that the town people decided need to go. In a gun fight on July 8, 1898, Smith was shot dead instantly. Frank Reid was injured in the fight and died 12 days later.

Interesting! Maybe you could have also used this in the Frank (fill in the blank) category. And is that a costumed interperter? Three in one - nice work! :lmao:
