Photographing the Lunar Eclipse

Sorry, but I can't resist telling you that I am wearing shorts, short sleeve shirt, and no shoes down here in SW FL while taking my eclipse shots.

wow, you guys all did a great job!! I haven't looked at mine yet, but I'm sure they aren't as good. I used my fireworks setting on the Olympus e500.
It was a beautiful and clear night down here. Looked amazing just with the naked eye!

Not too thrilled with the results but here's mine- kind of hit & miss clouds.

So, the clouds broke at just the right time to be able to see the eclipse. BUT, no close-ups with my 70-300VR. I completely forgot that my lens is sitting in a Nikon factory service center since Monday. So, I just decided to give it a go at 50mm and try to crop it a bit. I liked seeing Saturn and that big star in the shot with it. Small, but I think the effect is still there......

Great job guys!! We had a spectacular view here in southern Ohio - totally clear night! However, there was no way I was going to hang out with the camera in 5 degree weather!!! Instead, the kids and I enjoyed watching it progress thru out big windows on the south side of our home!!!

Mine weren't great, but I didn't think they were horrible considering I was using a 4mp point-and-shoot Fuji w/12x zoom and NO tripod!

I'm in Southern Ohio too, and I did go out for about 45 minutes. It took me a looonnnggg time to warm back up! This was harder than I thought it would be. Goes to show there's still SO much to learn.

So I had my tripod and my camera set up inside my house because it was too cold outside. I thought I'll just lie down on the couch for awhile until the eclipse. I fell asleep. So here's pre-eclipse. This is actually a PnS camera, so not too bad.

Mine came out blury I need to get a regular tripod - I was using a gorillapod on a table and I couldn't get the angle well enough using it w/o it tipping over or having to support it so my freezing, shaky hand wasn't helping any of it either. Oh well. I guess I shouldn't be too disappointed for a beginner and self-learner.

I read somewhere that the star that is just below and to the left a bit is actaul Saturn. Very cool to see both another planet and an eclipse in the same pic.

You're correct & the other star is Regulus (i hope I spelt that correctly)

I had read that too but couldn't remember the name or how to spell it. Isn''t it part or a constellation????

Thanks Jennifer! That's too bad considering we are only a few miles away. I went out at 8:45pm and it was hit and miss at best. But, right at 9pm, the sky went absolutely clear surrounding the moon and stayed like that for about 10 minutes until it went completely overcast again.
