Just wondering what everyone's experience with the disney photographers and with ones outside?

I'm hearing not so good things. And if i do have disney do it I should really have a list since they dont go after the normal shots. is this true?

my df's mom knows someone who daugther had a wedding and everything was great and the best wedding but the photographer wasnt so good and they didnt go gather the bride's family for a shot since they were to busy dancing

Just wondering what i should do.. i know we want that 8 or 10 hour package so we are planning on spending alot and i dont want a bad job...

Let me know your thoughts thanks

Photography is a really big deal for me so I understand where you're coming from. At first I was going to go with Disney, but I hated the fact that you really don't get to know the photographer, they send out whoever is working that day, and while you can request a certin photographer, it's not a guarantee. I also wanted at least 8 hours of coverage and the cost for disney photographers was just crazy. On the other hand some of the work I had seen from them was really nice, and it is disney.
Thanks to these boards I found out you can bring in an outside photographer. I did a ton of research and called about 6 photographers. I asked questions and in the end went with Randy Chapman. His work is great and he has been really patient with me. I felt he understood what I wanted for my wedding pictures. His prices are fantastic and you get a master CD with all the photos he took which I also loved.
Good luck :goodvibes

We are going with an outside one as well, misty miotto. I had looked at alot of recommendations from here and it was close between randy and misty.
We are from the UK so only really wanted a cd of the photos and misty could do this at a very good price and her photos are great

I am also going with an outside photographer - Nathan Root (www.rootography.com) - because he has a modern, photojournalistic style that Disney lacks and is half the cost of outside photographers like Karla Fountain. Plus, he is super-friendly and we had so much fun with him during our engagement portrait session.

Oh, and we get rights to all our pictures on a disc, which Disney would've charged us a bundle for.

In Disney's defense, they seem to do a great job of getting all the traditional shots of family members. Too traditional for my taste, though! :cutie:

I think with any photographer (or any other vendor for that matter) you should definitely have a list of things you absolutely want, a list of things you'd like to have (but aren't "required"), and a list of things you definitely do not want.

Every photographer has a unique style and it's important that they know what you want in your wedding pictures. If you want traditional, more photojournalistic, etc.

I used Disney photography and was very happy with the results. My only regret was not having them take more pictures. Yes, they are expensive but that's kinda "Disney" in a nutshell;)

It is true that you don't necessarily know who your Disney photographer is, but I understand they are trying to accommodate requests more (which is something they haven't done for very long). And I think if you discuss your preferences with your coordinator, they will try to match someone who has those particular qualities.

The biggest suggestion I can make is to take a look at the samples that many photographers have on their websites. But also realize that many of those shots are the best of the best they have taken (no one is going to show off the "not so great" shots;) ). I would use those samples as things you want or don't want your photographer to do.

Having said that, others have posted the websites of the photographers they have used (take a look at them! Randy is highly recommended here and I have heard nothing but absolute raves of Misty Miotto). If you want to see some samples of Disney's work, you can go here:

I'm sure others who have done this can give you more specific advice, but Disney doesn't seem to have a very restrictive policy about this.

For weddings, the most they might do is charge an escort fee for the photographer (especially if you are doing an in park ceremony/reception). However, in most cases, they seem to know the photographers in the greater Orlando area and don't charge that fee.

Hiwaygal covered it - there may be a $75-90 escort fee, and they will make the photographer fill out a form. That's it!
