I didn't want to "hijack" another thread, so I thought I'd start my own...

I've noticed a few talking about the different styles for photographers and "this" photographer is better so I was wondering what are the different photography styles (photojournalistic...etc) and which photographer (outside vender vs. Disney's) are best/not so good?

We're planning a VR for our 20th next year in April and since our wedding pictures were basically ruined, we are very interested in having photos that we love for our VR. (When I say our wedding photos were "ruined" - I mean that we had 12 rolls of 36 shots each taken and we were only able to salvage about a handful! My BIL offered to take photos (he was a photographer too, not an "amature") for our wedding, unfortunately he decided not to wear his glasses and focused the camera on his eye and we ended up with mostly blurry pictures. I basically relied upon friends who had cameras and got their negatives to make our album. We ended up hiring a photographer 6 months later, got dressed up in our wedding "outfits" and tried to "redo" our photographs. We have those, but it really didn't catch the emotions of our wedding day.

Thanks!!

There's no official ranking on which photographer is "better", whether they are personally hired outside Disney or DPS. It all depends on your personal style and what you're looking for. You could also look up reviews at places like weddingwire.com. I would recommend going to several photographers websites and looking through their weddings to discover which style you like if you're not sure. I think overall, most brides had good experiences with their chosen photographers on these boards...so reviews themselves might put them all on the same playing field. I looked through a ton of photographer's websites and blogs (if they have them) to figure out who I liked (we went with Jason Angelini). Hope that helps! :goodvibes

Basically, the two styles when dealing with wedding photos are photojournalistic/naturalistic/lifestyle (all typically referring to the same style) and traditional.

Photojournalism (also called "PJ") is the capturing of moments as they happen. Sometimes, these moments may be manipulated for the best possible results, such as having a bride put her makeup on near a mirror and not in the bathroom where the light may be yellow.

Traditional is posed photos. Family formals, more old school posing, etc.

Most photographers do both of the above depending on their specialty. Even a PJ photographer is going to do some posed photos of the family after the ceremony, for example.

As far as who is best, that's really a personal decision. There's a lot to consider.

What happened to your wedding photos is a shame. For this time around, be sure to ask about errors and omissions insurance, which would have covered you in that case and paid to restage the wedding.

Hope that helps!

I'm so sorry that happened to you!

I think it's really hard to say "best" since people have different taste in photography. Not just the style of the photos but also the editing of the photos. I would try to look at photos from all of the photographers you're considering and see which you like best. I think all of the photographers on here are pretty reputable and people have been happy with them. I would also look at vendor reviews on other sites like the knot or weddingwire since there are lots of photographers in FL that just haven't been used by any disbrides yet.
