Photo with Mickey

Where/when is the best place to get a family photo with Mickey? It has been a few years since we have been to DL. Is Mickey's house in Toontown still our best bet or can Mickey usually be found somewhere else in either DL or CA? Does Toontown still open later than the rest of the park, and if so, approximately what time? Does a line generally form to enter Toontown before that time?

We only have two mornings to get this done, so I am trying to plan our days. We have always gotten photos of our family with Mickey on every trip, and with one daughter in college and the other a junior in HS, this could be our last family Disney trip for some time, so this is very important to us, but we have limited time in the parks each day due to family wedding obligations, so we have to plan our day carefully.

Also, what characters are generally available for the Disney Visa character greet and meet at CA?

I would suggest Toontown bc you can be w/ him w/out anyone disturbing you. Mickey can also be found on Main Street and the Sunshine Plaza in DCA, but of course there will be a lot of ppl waiting to take pics w/ him too. Since there's Toontown Madness, I believe Toontown opens at regular park opening, but I'm not too sure about that. As for the Meet and Greet, I've seen Pluto and Chip and Dale. HTH!

You can go to City Hall & find out where & when Mickey will appear. My daughter & I were at the park on Friday for a couple of hours and saw Mickey greeting young guests (no big crowd), and a line for Minnie - both on Main Street.

A good not so crowded Mickey picture that has work for us is at California Adventure. I don't have my event schedule sheet handy at the moment, but there's a daily outdoor show near the Monster's Inc. ride. It's called something like Drawn to Magic, the show itself is a little painful to sit through - sorry! It's a little boring, but near the end of the show Woody, Cinderella, and Mickey come out and stick around for photos. I think a lot of people not familiar with the show aren't expecting the characters to come out at the end, so it's really not as crowded and the lines end up being shorter a lot of other places. The Mickey at the show is pretty cool because he's wearing his Fantasmic - socerer's apprentice costume.

If you'd like to try this, show up early so you can get a seat towards the front, and in the aisle, so you can get to the line easily and quickly. Mickey usually situates himself in the middle aisle area, or center stage.

Wait, now that I think of things, I think I've seen this show take place both on stage, and in front of that Animation building where Turtle Talk with Crush is. I think the stage performance may be a better organized situation.

I went to Disneyland last month, my first time there in a long time too. The only thing about Mickey's house in Toontown is that lines are long. It can take 30 minutes to an hour.

ToonTown opens an hour after Disneyland opens. You would want to be there before it opens, on days that they do NOT hold Mickey's ToonTown Morning Madness. If you attempt this pic on a day that MTTMM is held, you'll be behind an entire hour's worth of people who are already in TT and it won't be very fun.

When I went to TT in December (early in the month) there was indeed a line-up waiting for the gates to open. I called it the stroller brigade, b/c almost all of us in line had at least one stroller. Kinda funny. So I'd get there before TT opens and try to be at the front of the line!

When I was last there in March, my sister and my grandniece and I just strolled right through Mickey's house in ToonTown and had our picture taken with Mickey, but it was after dark. We were the only people in his house! They took so many pictures of us, and they also took pictures of us with my camera and my sister's. So if you can be there after dark, you might have better luck with no lines.

It was also funny when my sister and I were leaving Mickey Mouse, my sister said, "Thanks, Mick!" And I said, "Elizabeth! You called him MICK!" And she said, "What do you want me to call him...MISTER Mouse?" He hugged us and off we went!

Toontown would be the ideal place to see him. You get him all to yourself in the living room and they have CMs to take your picture with your camera. I think TT opens a couple hours later than the park, and theres usually a small crowd waiting, but not that big of a deal. Obviously the sooner you go the better, so I'd ask about it as soon as you get to the park.

When we went back in 06, we went to TTMM and watched the first few minutes of it. Due to the lack of visibility, we ended up walking around and ended up at Mickeys house while everything was still going on. We noticed a small line and decided to jump in.

Right after the TTMM thingy, Mickey went directly to his house to do pics. Hardly any wait at all.

Something strange though.....when we grouped together for our photo, which coincidently is the one you see below, my dh gently put his arm around Mickey, and Mickey sort of slouched over. Almost like he was trying to get away or it was far too much weight for him? I don't know...it was just akward and the CM had to take a couple different pics as I was paying more attention to Mickeys strange behavior as opposed to looking at the camera.

Anyone else have off the wall experiences with character reactions?

The best we've done was on Main Street first thing in the morning. Hardly a line. Now we've done it in Toontoon at his house ONCE. The line was crazy, never again! LOL

Thanks for all the tips. Looks as if we will aim for TT first thing in the morning, but also keep our eyes open for the other possible opportunities, and/or check with City Hall for those unpublished places.

With daughters in hs and college, I just hope this isn't our last photo with Mickey as a family! It seems just like yesterday we took the first one, over 11 years ago! If only we could all stay as ageless as Mickey and Minnie!

We have seen Chip and Dale, Pluto, Goofy and even occastionally Mickey at the Visa meet and greet. Most often it is C&D. When it is members of the Fab Five they are in nautical garb.

Don't forget that you can get a free picture every day of your trip. We have been lucky in the past to hit different characters on different days. Also, some CMs who work the photo area will let you choose any picture on your photopass as your freebie, not just your Visa pic. This is not a rule, so it is kinda hit and miss and depends on the CM who is working.

I actually think the best place to see him is on Main Street. We just got back yesterday and every morning at opening he was out. We also saw him and Minnie every night (at least until 10:30pm on a midnight closing). They are in the Year of a Million Dreams costumes and the lines were minimal. We waited maybe 3 minutes to see them.
