Photo transfer medium for tee shirts??

I was watching something or other and they did some pillows with this photo transfer medium. So...I got to wondering if it was usable for shirts. Wondered if it was washable. Have any of you tried doing shirts with this stuff rather than iron on sheets? Or even if you could make a copy of one of the terrific designs here, and then use this medium to transfer it to a tote bag or such.
Just curious about the process and thought you all may know something about it.
