Photo storage for Mac question...

I gave a Macbook. I currently have over 7,000 pictures. I use a Canon Elf--nothing fancy. My computer is out of storage space--no wonder! I have all my pictures backed up on CD. Is there a better way to store them? Memory stick? External hard drive? I'd love to get most if not all of them off my computer and just work on current pictures.

I had this same question a while back and most of the responses I got were to back up via multiple methods. Now, I keep only the most recent month or two of photos on my laptop hard drive. The rest (and copies of the ones currently on my hard drive) go to an external drive and I also burn discs containing the photos.

In addition, any processed photos that I am happy with I upload to my SmugMug account, which allows you to upload original size files. I've thought before about burning two copies of discs---one to keep at my house and one at another location (like a relatives or safe deposit box) in case of a fire/flood/etc. but haven't had the time to take on that project yet.

Thank you for the quick response! I am considering a hard drove for around $80 but want to make sure that is my best option. I will continue to burn CDs but DH has me scared that CDs will very soon be obsolete. Like you, I plan to put all my CDs in our lock box. It will give me piece of mind. Especially if I (goodness forbid) have to choose between grabbing the cat or my laptop

I bought a 1TB LaCie external hardrrive and use it to backup my iMac. I am considering buying a 2nd one to store video.
