Photo Sharing: Ultra Wide Angle

Yeah I know what you mean- this was taken the night I met Code at MK and also the first time I ever used my new bigger tripod. We were side by side with two fairly tall tripods (not to mention two fairly tall guys- I'm 6'3" and I think he's taller than I am.) We set up early about half-way between the back of the partners statue and the 'road' that wraps around the hub there. As people filled in around us- most everyone in front of us ended up sitting down for the show while those even with us or behind us were standing. No one said anything but I did feel kind of self-conscious about it. Not sure if we were responsible for defining the sitting/standing areas or if it just worked out that way.

Of course I have been on the opposite side of the coin where you set up with a normal height tripod on Main Street an hour early and two minutes before the show someone comes and stands directly in fron of you.

I've been debating this very issue in my mind lately. I've been thinking of getting a really tall tripod to shoot over people's heads. I'd never go set it up right in front of someone, but am concerned that people behind me will not be happy. Not that the latecomers who stand right in front of you ever care... but I want to do what's right.....

I'm curious if I find the spot I think will be the cut-off between sitting and standing, and set up an "average" size tripod with my Tokina 11-16, will I be be able to get a decent amount of the perimeter fireworks? I'm wondering if I really need the extra height or not if I get fairly close and use the UWA.....

I did this with the castle lighting ceremony in Dec 08. My feet were killing me having been in the park all day, but I got fairly close, set up the tripod, and stood there for about 45 minutes until the show started. I didn't want anyone upset with me for getting up at the last minute. I ended up being that cut off between sitting and standing and it worked fairly well (except for the sore feet!)

Looking down the "Tower" of a Saturn V.

Being 6'8", I'm going to be annoying people behind me, tripod or not, so I don't let it bother me. I just make sure when I'm picking my spot that I'm not blocking anyone that was already waiting.

Your cadaverous pallor betrays an aura of foreboding, almost as though you sense a disquieting metamorphosis. Is this haunted room actually stretching? Or is it your imagination, hmm?

Is a 5' 1" CM actually scolding a 6' 8" man for taking this picture? Or is it my imagination, hmm?

A fan finds her long-view seat about 90 minutes before the SU-Villanova game. The orange towels where a promotion and every seat had them. Yep, 34,616 towels.

So is Disney taking a page from the UWA Cult book? Sure looks like it to me. ;)

VERY nice pictures Jamian! :thumbsup2 What software are you using to process all of your pictures, if you don't mind me asking.

No I don't mind at all. Most of what I've posted here is HDR. Typically I combine 3 shots (+2, 0, -2) in Photomatix and play with the levels. From there I usually open the combined image in Photoshop CS3 and use Topaz Adjust to add a little pop and enhance detail. Finally I use Topaz Denoise to calm the noise down.

Cheers,
J

Very good job/use of HDR. :thumbsup2

Just got my Tokina 11-16mm today. Now to study some of the pictures in this thread, so I can be prepared for my trip to WDW next month.

They had some crumby pictures of this year's version of this scene (at night) on the Park's photo blog that looked like they were taken with a UWA. Since this shot is actually pretty good, in my opinion, I'm betting Jeff took it himself and submitted it to Disney!

Another, another chatter, here's my shot for the day:
