Took my Soligor 200mm 2.8 to Bucknell University for an indoor "long course" swim meet. I used a monopod to provide some stabilization while sitting in the stands and tried to get off shots at a shutterspeed of 1/200 sec to 1/400 sec. This required me to constantly adjust my aperture; sometimes shooting as low as f/2.8 up to f/5.6 and ISO between 800 and 3200 with most at 1600. In addition, I was manually focusing using focus peaking; which means I was full manual everything. My hit rate was about 30-40%. I was really wishing I could get on deck but that was not allowed. Adjusting all the controls on the fly was challenging but also fun. Sometimes I would set up a "zone" in one of the lanes to focus on and then wait for my son ( and/or other swimmers) to hit that zone and fire away ( using speed priority shutter speed ). I also shot in RAW and did PP in Lightroom. I may run some of these shots through DXO Prime noise reduction because I'm not totally satisfied with LR's NR. It just takes forever in DXO.

Most of these ( if not all ) are also cropped 20-50%.

this was not cropped and was able to shoot it at ISO400 - the IQ is pretty good, it's just not a very interesting picture.

Overall, the results came out better than I expected with this lens. I have primarily used the SEL 18-200mm for sports, but at 200mm it's shooting at f/6.5 which isn't great in these tough lighting environments. I did shoot some with the SEL 18-200mm (hand held using OSS) at this meet and I found that I couldn't shoot much faster than 1/200 sec.

Awesome! Enjoying everyone's photos!!! Just purchased the Sony NEX 5T and looking to learn all I can now that I have moved from point and shoot to a camera with more function and change lenses. Wasn't ready to make the jump to the dslr and thought this was a nice "fit" for me. Looked at the a6000 but it just didn't "fee" right to me. Anyway - nice work to all of you - awesome shots!!

I'm so excited about my new purchase that I had to find somewhere to share my good news. I've been lurking on this form and many Flickr accounts for a while now and it looks like I'm finally ready to try and join the big boys!

I've been playing around with a bridge camera (Sony HX400) and have been having a ton of fun re-learning everything I forgot when I took photography in high school back in the 80's. I've also recently discovered the joy and wonder of Lightroom which makes me wonder how I ever got along without this software before.

I hadn't planned on buying a new camera because the HX400 is only a few weeks old. My thought was that I would get used to the bridge camera and then sometime next year upgrade it to a DSLR.

Well that all changed yesterday when I got to work and logged into the company home page. The family store was having a huge sale on refurbished cameras and the first thing that caught my eye was an A77 with the 16-50mm 2.8 lens. When I saw the sale price my mouth hit the floor and the credit card immediately came out.

It's the original A77 and not the A77II but the camera and lens were just about the same cost as the HX400 when I bought it a few weeks ago.

I'm a little bit concerned that it was refurbished, but I have had some good luck with our refurbished products in the past.

I was so excited about getting the camera that I didn't really look at anything else on the site until last night. It was then that I noticed there was a zoom lens available as well and again it was at a ridiculous price so I'm now the proud owner of an A77, 16-50mm f/2.8 lens, and a DT 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 Zoom.

Needless to say I have a ton to learn so I might be bugging you all for a while with noob questions.

I started with a NEX-3 and enjoyed it so much I moved up to a NEX-7. Good luck with the new camera and can't wait to see some results!

One of the best things about shooting Sony A-mount, is the availability of some cheap classic glass, like this taken with the Minolta 70-210 f/4 beercan (they go for about $100):

Thanks...I think someone screwed up in our family center store because when I went back today to check on other things, the camera and both lenses had increased dramatically in price (almost double). Glad I pulled the trigger when I did. I can't wait to get started. You guys have inspired me!
