Looking at your pictures reminds me that I am really tired of winter. It has been a long one this year.

Justin, these are some incredible shots. I just upgraded from the A350 to the A580 about a month ago. I had 2 weeks to learn the camera before a Disneyland trip. I am very happy with this camera and the new settings on it. I hope to get some pictures up soon, but it might not happen until May. I really liked the handheld twilight mode. That is an awesome setting!

I had bought the 50mm f1.8 in Dec 2009 and returned it because I was not happy with the dark ride shots I got with it. I bought the 50mm f1.4 in February and took it to Disneyland with a new body (A580) and was very pleased with it! I wanted to get dark ride shots and it performed much better than the f1.8. The colors in Buzz Lightyear were amazing!!!

Wow, this thread has kind of gotten buried!!

I do have a question regarding the Sony DLSR 50 mm lens.....I'm looking at replacing one of my old Minolta lenses with either the F 1.8 or F1.4. Am I going to note that much of a difference with either of these considering my interest is really not so much portrait photography, rather using the lens for indoors, low light, and landscape? Since there is a difference in cost of $170 between these two lenses, I'd love an opinion!!

I have the video on the a580 and was very impressed with it. It looks far better than I thought it would. I upgraded to the a580 from the a350 and really like the camera. I also bought a Tamron 18-200 lens and the Sony 50mm f1.4 at the same time. I hope to go out this Saturday with some guys from work for a photo walk. Two of us have Sonys the other a Canon.

Thanks for the info on the A550, folks. Banned is too strong a word– but I want to wait for a video option (I know SLRs are not ideal for this, but I'd like to be able to take short videos of my kids– like at a school concert). I care much more about stills, so my plan is to wait for an A5xx or A7xx body with video option. And waiting until xmas or early '11 is probably best in the interests of marital harmony... I can be a frequent upgrader at times

Congrats Tammy, and thanks for the compliments. That's a very nice upgrade I think - the A5xx series adds much over the A350, which was great in its own right - but once you see what these cameras can do in speed, focus, color, and high ISO sensitivity, it just blows away expectations. The A580 looks like an excellent upgrade from my A550 even, with slightly better high ISO on what seems to be one of the best sensors made for APS-C cameras in that 16MP one you've got, and some nice control additions. Enjoy it...and lets see those shots when you get around to them!

I will be sure to post some of the pictures once I get a chance. I have finals coming up in a month and have to focus on that right now. I would rather be out with the camera though. I was really impressed with the ISO, as it goes up to 12,600 and can be pushed to 25,800 or so. I don't think I went anywhere near that high in the dark rides, but I am sure the fast lens helped with that. I will try to get some pics up over the weekend.

I bought two new lenses last month: a Sony 50mm f1.4 lens and a Tamron 18-200 lens. I wanted more of a walk around lens with the Tamron (it worked beautifully on my trip to Disneyland this month and I used the Tamron for most shots). It depends on what type of pictures you want to take though. I got the 50mm for dark rides.

If you were to get another lens what would it be?

I am trying to learn the camera and have gotten some great shots but I have the normal lens that came with my A300 and a zoom lens. Any suggestions will be appreciated?

I assume this is the supermoon from a few weeks ago. I took one of it too with my Tamron 75-300mm lens. I thought mine was pretty good till I saw yours, wow, that is amazing.

Indeed - I think that one is the night before the actual 'supermoon' night...I took photos both nights...it was still pretty 'super' the night before as well (I was worried clouds might block my view the next night, so I snapped both nights to be safe).

Appreciate the compliments...there are very few times I find my cheap little 2x TC useful, as it doesn't have the optical quality for things like birds and wildlife and is manual focus only on my big Tammy lens...but for something like the moon, it's perfect!

For posting photos, go to a place like www.photobucket.com and set up your account. It's free. Then upload your photos there. Highlight the bottom one of the three links below the photo you want to post and click copy. Then come on here where you want to post the photo and right click then click paste and you are done. Or if you used a different photo sharing site then copy your link, come her to post and click the yellow icon with the mountains and paste your link.

Some more samples from my NEX 3, this time with my 34-year-old Osawa 28mm F2.8 (Pentax K mount) lens - I took a walk around my neighborhood late at night to try out some night shots.

This was nearly pitch black to the eye - I decided I wanted to go night for day, and did an ISO1600 exposure for 15 seconds with the lens wide open:

A little playground area behind our clubhouse pool - mostly lit from the streetlights around the clubhouse behind me, and the neighbors' houses in the background:

I loved the way these trees were catching the residual light from the playground - 15 second exposure, I believe I was stopped down a bit to F8 here:

Some handheld fun using twilight stacking mode - ISO3200 at F2.8 of a night blooming plant (yep...ISO3200, JPG, straight from the camera!):

A 10-second exposure at ISO800, aperture at F8...of my house:

This was an unbelievably dark scene - none of this was even visible to the eye - I used the distance scale to estimate focus, stopped down to F8 to increase my chances, exposed at 15 seconds using HDR1 and ISO800...then duplicated the exposure twice and blended in screen mode for a 2-stop push to ISO3200 equivalent:

My A550 usually does all my wildlife work, but I was testing out a new (old) lens on my NEX3 just to see how the lens would do, and had the opportunity to snap some nearby wildlife while out in the wetlands with both cameras. The lens turned out to be a seriously sharp winner - a Chinon 135mm F2.8 - who said you can't shoot birds with a manual focus, full manual lens on a compact mirrorless body with no viewfinder?:
