Photo pass with AP -- confused on logistics

So currently I am an AP holder and mine expires in May. During our April trip my husband and 4DD will get AP which will help cover our November trip (it doesn't make sense for me to upgrade).

So they are both listed on my MDE - neither has their own account. If we upgrade their tickets at the beginning of our April trip will the pictures be available on my account or will DH have to create his own MDE account in order to manage and have access to any photos taken during this and our Nov trip. Or just because he is an AP holder listed on my account it will provide access to the picture.

I feel like this is all confusing (or i'm making it more confusing than necessary), but i guess what i am asking is - as long as there is one active AP holder listed on my MDE we should have access to the photo pass -- is that correct? Or is photo pass access only if the main holder of the MDE account is an AP holder.

You’d probably get better answers in the Theme Park forum rather than here in the DVC section.

My understanding is that the MDE account owner needs to hold the AP in order to download photos. There seems to be a bug that doesn’t allow you to download if the AP is held by a profile that you manage. That profile really needs their own MDE account. At least that’s what I recall from when the perk was introduced. They may have fixed it by now

I can see all of the photos from everyone of my Family and Friends.

I can see all the pictures of everyone. Only the AP holder can download those pictures. It’s also a bit more complicated to actually go through the pictures, but it is nice having them for your friends

we have 1 MDE account. Call it a family account. I am the primary. i manage the 3 accounts for my wife and 2 daughters. I see all there bands, AP's, and any photo pass pictures scanned to any of our 4 bands.

My understanding is that whomever has the AP is the only one with control of the pictures so they'd have to have an account to be able to download them.

That has not been my experience. I am "planning" with the mother of my daughter's boyfriend (English should have a word for this relationship). The boyfriend has an annual pass managed by his mother; no other person in their family has an annual pass. I can see all the Photopass pictures associated with the boyfriend's annual pass AND I can download the photos. Mind you, I do have the boyfriend attached to an upcoming trip I am managing.

Do you have an annual pass?

I do have an annual pass. Perhaps that is what is required to unlock all the photos for download. Hmm, I do not know if my planning partner, who does not have an annual pass, is seeing the restriction. OK, ignore me. I clearly do not have enough information to comment.

It's a question of having an AP and an MDE account.

AP holders have the access to download. Guests with tickets only would be able to see but not download. But if the AP holder does not have an MDE account they would not be able to download the photos as they wouldn't be signed on. So in the OP's scenario where the AP holders are listed on her account but do not have their own sign on they would not be able to download as she will not have the qualifying AP. She'll see them as you can see any associated friends and family photos but she could not download.

So with you having a good grasp on my situation -- how would i be able to move my husband to his own MDE account along with his new AP? Is it easy or am I going to have to call upon the wonderful disney IT department

After he creates his own MDE account, go to the family & friends list in YOUR MDE account. Click 'Update' for his profile that you manage then click 'Invite to Connect' and enter the email address he used when he created is MDE account. He will need to accept the request from HIS MDE Account.

Once he accepts your friend request, he will probably want to friend your DD (profile you manage). To do this, he needs to select 'Add a Guest' on HIS Family & Friends list. He then should see a list of your friends and any of your connected friends. He can select any that he wants to connect with and then select 'Done'. An email will be sent to the controlling MDE account holder to approve the friend request.
