photo pass plus and character meal question

I have our photopass plus ordered for our late July trip. I need help understanding the character dining photos and how they relate to PP+.
We have a rez at Surf's Up. Will they give me actual complimentary pictures while I am there, or do I just have them scan something to my lanyard to be added to my pp+ account?

I received the complementary photo package while we were at both Goofy's Kitchen and Minnie's Breakfast at the Plaza Inn. When I viewed my PhotoPass + photos at home, we had additional shots at each along with the one we received at the character meal.

You get both the hard copy photo and the digital image. When we were at Surf's up we got several photos of the kids with Mickey on the PP+ in addition to the hard copy family photo, that was also added to the PP+ card.
