Photo Packages....

Can someone shed some light on the cruise photo packages? Do we HAVE to pre-purchase a package in advance? Or can we see how photos came out and purchase at the time? I'm on the DCL website and it sounds like we can go and view our pictures at Shutters but I wanted to make sure we didn't HAVE to buy something in advance. Any input? Thanks!

You can purchase the packages on the ship; they just offer a 15% discount on the packages if you purchase in advance.

I'd wait until you're onboard. You can buy smaller packages (10, 20 photos) or all your photos. We usually buy the 10. Last cruise we bought them all because we cruised with 2 other families and there were a lot of good shots. Do make sure to go to the kiosks at least once before the last night of the cruise to make sure all your photos are there. One time a lot of ours were missing but they were able to find them and add them to our portfolio.

I think the discount is only on the entire package not the 10/20 photos...I'll have to check that.

Also, while you can get a 15% discount in advance, if you charge everything to a Disney Visa, you can get a 10% discount onboard. Yes, that is 5% less, but still better than full price. Also, I believe DVC gets a discount as well.

You don't have to buy it in advance, but you do get a discount. And if you don't like the pictures, you can get a refund. Win-win.

If you purchase in advance you get the discount like others said. If you decide once onboard that you don't like your pictures, don't get enough pictures, etc., you can cancel your purchase by a certain time on the ship and get your money back.

No, you don't HAVE to purchase in advance, but purchasing in advance does have its benefits. You can get a 15% discount on various packages (not all) if you book before the cruise. If you pre-purchase, and change your mind on board, you can still get a refund up to a certain point on your cruise. If you leave it too late however, then you will not be able to get a refund, so check the finer details.

Last year, we did not get around to purchasing the USB digital package before we left, and then once in WDW we totally forgot, so had not pre-purchased. We did buy on board, and used our DVC discount, but it was still more expensive than doing pre-purchase with discount. This year, we have done the pre-purchase already, 2 months out, because worst case scenario we can get a refund; best case we will save $$$.
