Photo editing Contest 4-21 to 5-4

I am going to try something different this week by running a 2 week contest to see what everyone can come up with, and also to allow me time to come up with a listing of topics to cover over the next few contests.

This weeks chalenge is "Creative." This means you can do what ever you want. If you wish you may use the photo below or one of your choosing, if you use your own you must post the original as well. It would be nice if your photo could be Disney related, but is not a requirement.

Photos may be cropped, framed, whatever you wish to do in your editing.

My Disney pictures all stink, so I hope it's ok if I use something else and I'm just learning so here goes.....

Not that mine needs explaining, but to newbies like me, I just played with mine in Photobucket. They now have all the free stuff to play around with your pictures. I only have the free Corel software loaded onto my computer, but I may upgrade though, because it is alot of fun.

Program Used: Picasa
Main effects: Sepia, Film Grain (x3...i think), and Soft Focus

I used CS2 and basically just added several photo filters after creating a background copy, selecting the color range, and creating a vector mask. Doing this gave me the different colors in the image. Minnie was from another PSD file that I basically put in a separate layer.

Program used - Photo Explosion
Effect - Somebody recently told me this is called Tilt-shifting, and apparently some programs have this feature built into them, which makes it quite a bit easier to do. Unfortunately Photo Explosion doesn't so I had to do it the hard way. Basically I chose "Edit" then "Select" then "trace", and traced the outline of the train, and then "Inverted" it (so that everything but the train was now selected). Then I changed the focus of everything else but the train to a more out-of-focus view by choosing "Effect" then "sharpness" then "Average" (and picked the most out-of-focus view that was offered). I then merged the effect, and did it over again 2 more times to get the out-of-focus view where I wanted it. After which I "zoomed" in on any spots that had a bad outline trace (it's kind of hard to trace free-hand with a mouse), and fixed up that bad spot by using "Edit", "Select", "trace", and then "Convert to object" on the part I wanted to super-impose over the bad part. I also did this with the windows inside the Engine car to make those sections look out-of-focus as well.
As you can see, the finished project gives you sort of a toy figure look to it.

Good thought!!! I'm pretty new to photo editing too, so it'll be nice to get some tips. I'll edit my post above to say how i did my picture. I used Picasa though, so it was totally easy.

Very cool effects Goofster and Crazydadguy! Emmabelle... I too havent explored much into what I can do with photoshop. I am going to start really exploring it, but I love the pic! I shoud go back to some of my pics of George and add some things like that.

Thanks everyone! SrisonS...I'm still looking for that "totaly easy" button...can't seem to find it I just downloaded Picasa, looks like a pretty cool program. I've just recently figured out how to do the selective coloring in Photoimpact Pro, I love doing that! Off to play with more photos!
