Photo Contest rules (please read)

I've been giving this more thought. I think you were too quick to dismiss the single elimination tournament idea. Think about it. In head-to-head competition, you could be assured that each competitor would be strictly policing their opponent.

Like real sporting contests, we could add in penalties for violations:

1) Picture too big - resize and lose 5 votes

2) Not your work - take a picture of the picture to make it yours, repost that, lose 10 votes

3) Two entries - pick one, lose half your votes

4) Park rules violation - you must return to the park, retake the picture while following the rules, and repost. Lose 15 votes.

5) Videotaping your opponent preparing their photo - No meaningful penalty. We'll just sweep that under the rug.

6) Photos doesn't match the topic - Your picture gets converted into a little red x and you have to just hope people vote for it anyway.

7) Post it after the contest ends - Votes for your picture don't count until after the winner is determined.

8) Picture not on Disney property - Your photo is replaced with a link to an off-board photo, lose 15 votes.

9) Photo already won in an earlier contest - You forfeit half of your winnings from the prior contest.

10) Added a frame - A similar sized section of your photo is removed, lose 10 votes.

11) Get more votes than me - You are DISQUALIFIED

To be perfectly serious....drat, I lack the maturity to be perfectly serious.

Well, if you're unhappy about the contest, I do have a constructive suggestion. Get RTPHookie's PayPal account number and start dropping some cash. Even a $20 can help get you placed in an easy heat. Once I caught on, I finally made the finals.

A few questions for those of you in the elite circle of winners - how has winning affected your photography income? How much have you been able to increase your prices now that you can advertise yourself as a Disboard photo contest winner? Which gear companies are offering you the best gear for your sponsorship? Have you had trouble keeping your old friends now that your life has changed? I'm trying not to obsess over this, but I'm just so excited about trying to win. I can hardly remember back in my naive days when I was just entering for fun.

OK, I've conducted my morning review of the current contest. The first thing that I noticed was that a lot of the pictures are right on the edge of being too large. You better believe that I'll be keeping a close eye on them.

UKCatFan - You're in trouble. The max size is 800x600 and yours is 533x800. The 533 is way less than 800, but the 800 is way more than 600. I'm telling.

ChesireVal - Nice try on sneaking in tinkergrumpybuns (have all the good IDs already been taken?) picture in as your own. It's obvious that you quoted her.

Master Mason - You posted twice. Thought I wouldn't notice if they were on different pages and only one had a picture? Not this time. Your latin dog is not going to be impressed.

BorisMD - This is a photo contest, not a philosophy discussion. The last thing we need around here is someone dragging threads off topic.

oOoJoe (sorry, I can't keep the ears up) - What part of "1 submission per member, per contest" do you not understand? I see 9 different pictures in your post.

Debooooos, Chirurgeon, Amy - Darth Vader turns good at the end of the story, so you can't count him as a villain. You're disqualified.

emmabelle - If you've got to start your post with legal arguments justifying it, that's a sign you stepped over the line. Personally, I would have gone with the middle cat picture. That's a cat that is up to no good.

Bagdad Bob - OK, I'll grant you that it's a nice shot. However, showing Mickey being taking hostage is too intense for our younger viewers and so it needs to be censored.

Princesskelz - Thank for you clearly staying within the size limits. It's nice to see someone that isn't trying to test the boundaries of the rules for a change. However, this is a villains contest, so you lose points for being nice.

korzmom - Have you been paying any attention at all? Hasn't been used yet? There were a bunch of darth vader pictures earlier. And like yours, they were all disqualified.

funhouse8 - You can't really expect us to buy into this being a villain shot when your son is standing there smiling next to her.

Mark Barbieri - Finally, an outstanding picture that follows all of the rules. I'm going to show people that I'm not stupid by voting for your picture.

I sent RTPHokie a PM a few minutes ago about all these cheaters, but he hasn't responded. Does anyone have his cell phone number?

it's not even 8am yet - oh my goodness - love to start my day with a laugh, just glad that this time, it wasn't me looking at myself in the mirror when I first woke up!!! I gotta go find a photo to submit - feeling very left out at the moment! Please note that it will not be a photo of Darth Vader for sure!!! Or the Evil Queen --- wouldn't want to steal the win from Mark!!!! ( which I have to add is one awesome photo!!! )

I somehow missed this thread en it was originally posted. Just read the whole thing and I am laughing hysterically. MArk, I think you may be the funniest person I never met!

ETA: I couldn't believe Mark had never won a contest and just went back to see who had won, I had to laugh when I saw that Mark won the contest the week that all those posts were written, good to know that the paypal system works.

As to the original post, I went back and read the rules because our contest leader said "please". So okey, dokey rtphokey! Sorry I think okey dokey everytime I see your screen name!
