Photo Contest, online !

Hi everyone

Just wanted to share, since alot of talented persons here have overwhelming pics to share

I received an email regarding this photo contest, says it's free. I have not looked soooo further into it yet. But, I thought some here may want to check it out.

It's on Picture.com, and there's a prize to be won. Sounds nice, but like I said, I have not looked into it further, as I am not quite sure if some of my pics would win.

It is mostly a scam. They will tell you your photo is wonderful, they are putting it in a book, sell you the book and the book never sees the light of day though you might eventually get your copy. They will also try to get you to come to their conferences to get your trophy, paying an exhorbinant fee to do so, but won't give you your trophy unless you pay (if at all). Stay very very far away from them!

Sounded tooo good to be true. I entered, as a couple of others did, but guess we won't win any money...

My pic does look nice though on the paper they sent me...

i think it 's one of "those enter your _____________"(fill in the blank be it poetry, short story, original painting, dirty pair of socks etc. ) and then they hound you for "buy this" the rest of your natural born life.
there are a lot of legit contests though through photo mags etc if you want to try your skills

I did enter the contest too and got a notice that my photo was selected to be in the finals, and this wonderful coffee table photography book. And for $25 dollars I can write some personal info for the book, and reserve a copy of the book for $70. I figured it was a marketing ploy, and won't be buying the book. But I was excited when I first opened the letter, thinking my pic was pretty cute. Oh well. Maybe one day we'll win a real photography contest.

When my daughter took photography in high school, she entered a photo contest. She got a notice that she was a finalist and her picture would be in a coffee table book. We had just purchased a $15 book that had poems that my son wrote (in Elementary school. The teacher submitted them not knowing that was a scam!). We felt that we should do the same for her. Well, that book was $90 !! We still bought it and it has been on the bookshelf collecting dust, only looked at once to find her picture !
