Photo Check for Fast Passes??

Any guesses on what could have made the OP's sister's photo show up on the scanner with the FP?
Not really... possibly when the CM scanned the tickets to “fix” the non-matching FP issue, the pictures popped up then, and the sister just got a bit confused when relaying the story later?

I haven’t ever seen my picture pop up, and we often scan each other’s tickets among our family/extended family, and we’ve never had an issue.

That sounds reasonable. The only time my photo pops up is with DAS, and this couldn't have been because of that, so your explanation could be the answer. I'll have to ask about this the next time we see an available CM with a scanner.

We did not go on Indy this past weekend but I did notice that other rides with two FP scan points such as Big Thunder and Splash were not using the second scan point (whereas they were using both scan points on our trip in May). Space was still using both FP scan points.

I went on Indie about two weeks ago and I wasn't asked to scan a second time. As an aside, Buzz Lightyear stopped scanning at the second scan point shortly after Max Pass was introduced.

Main Entrance photos do not currently show up on the Cast Member iPhones at the touch points. However, if you have a DAS on your ticket, your photo will pop up on the Cast Members iPhones when your ticket is scanned to get and redeem a return time.

This could all change soon as Shanghai Disneyland has a FastPass system almost identical to Disneyland's and your main entrance photo does pop up on the Cast Member iPhones at the touch points.

Oh, and the only attractions at the resort that now have 2 scan points are Space Mountain and Splash Mountain. Haunted Mansion recently removed their Fast Pass merge scanners and Space Mountain is scheduled to remove theirs soon as well.

I saw the second scan point at Buzz used over this past mother's day weekend (my last visit). I only see it not used later in the evenings on past visits. But they've definitely used it on every trip I've been on since MP was introduced (although it does get turned off close to closing from my experience as I mentioned). I tend to go during the very busy times, though (major holidays like Christmas, NYE, and Thanksgiving) so that could be a factor.

I think it depends on how well they can watch the line to make sure no one jumps. Longer lines mean more people man harder to always catch someone jumping into the FP line.

I find it difficult to believe RSR removed their second scan point. That's an easy line to jump same as Space is and I've witnessed people trying to do just that only to realize there's a second scan. Like as in waited until we rounded the corner, jumped the chain right in front of me and then stopped dead when they saw the second scan point. I didn't see the resolution as I just walked around them and scanned my AP to go on the ride, but that second scan point stops the cheaters.

Unless Disney is finally dedicating someone to watch up there, that doesn't sound likely they'll actually remove them. If it's true, I certainly have my complaints and will voice them to Disney if measures have not been taken to prevent the cheating.

Even HM second scan point is easy to jump. There's a blind corner where they wouldn't be able to see you jump to the other line. Why would they remove that one? I've seen it off on slower days, but it still exists as a deterrent.

Wow -- interesting. I haven't seen them used in a long, long time. And I've probably been on Buzz two hundred times this year alone. I do notice that the second scan stations have been covered and locked since shortly after Max Pass was introduced. I'm friendly with a few person that work on the ride. I'll ask them this Sunday if I see any of them.

The Racers touch points at FP merge haven't been in use for few months now, you scan at the entrance and thats it. Yes it opens up the possibility of line cutting, but it also dramatically speeds up the Fast Pass queue, which is notorious for backing up. Disney thinks a faster FP queue is worth having a less secure FP queue.

Same (friendly with a few of them), but I don't ride nearly as much as you. I just stand out because of my panda stuffy and they love his Buzz outfit he wears sometimes :)

But yeah, it's definitely been in use (or was my last trip). I'm more shocked when I see it covered because it's rare for me to see it like that unless I'm riding late. It's also been since May my last trip, though, so a more recent change could have happened. Unlike Space, RSR, and HM, it's a lot more difficult to jump the line at Buzz. I'm still shocked by BTMR since it always looked easy to cheat that line too since the reroute. And I have complained to them about that one.

I don't agree.

And I'll for sure be submitting a formal complaint to Disney when I've seen for myself if the second scan is disabled as I've been a personal witness to the cheating they stop. I still find it difficult to believe they would cease operation of it and clearly there is a difference in experience as WonkaKid hasn't seen the second Buzz scan in use since shortly after MP debuted, but I've personally experienced using it over several trips months after MP debuted.

They were still very much using them when I was there in May and I prefer their usage.

The RSR second scanner was in use during the afternoon on Aug. 5th because we had to go through both scanners in line.

The OP says her sister was not using DAS and wasn't with anyone who was using DAS. Thus the question about what could have made her sister's photo show up on the CM's handheld when the FPs were scanned.

... I find it difficult to believe RSR removed their second scan point...

Every time we've ridden RSR this summer (not super often, but at least 5 times so far), we've had to go through two scan points. As I said above, the most recent time we scanned twice was on 8/05 in the early afternoon. So the second scan point is still in use sometimes.

That's a relief to read. I just couldn't fathom them not using it entirely.

A sometimes out of use second scan is much different from an always out of use.

Was there all last week and there's no second scanner. But, that doesn't mean there wasn't one for a while. It sounds like RSR had a second one for a while but it didn't last week.
I'm not sure where a photo would pop up though. The readers just turn green when you scan. There was no display at all.

The photos pop up on the CM's handheld device, which is what makes this such a puzzle. The only photos that I've ever seen show up are for DAS (when the scanners turn blue), which the OP is sure her sister didn't have.

@RedHotMama: Spoke with a CM about this yesterday evening. She agreed that normally a photo would not show up when a CM scans a FP for a return time. However, given your sister's circumstances, the CM thinks that perhaps the CM at IJA overrode the return times by grouping everyone together in a "pseudo-wheelchair return time" group. Apparently, that might have caused your sister's photo to pop up on the scanner. This CM said that she'd never done anything like this, so she wasn't absolutely sure that it would have worked, but it was the only solution she could think of that might explain the photo.
