Photo CD -- has anyone had experience with this?

I understand that Disney now offers a CD with the photos that are taken in the park that can be purchased rather than purchasing individual pics online. I also have heard that the CD comes with the license to be able to print these photos.

My question -- has anyone had any problems with being allowed to print out the pictures at store? I know some of the places that I have used are pretty restrictive about copyright, etc.

When you purchase a photo cd under Disney's PhotoPass scheme, you're also given the license to reproduce and distribute the pictures on the disc however you see fit, be it emailing, or printing them out either yourself or through a store that offers digital print facilities.

That is true, but there is a thread here about Walmart refusing to print the photos. If Disney is going to sell you the copyrights they need to provide you with some kind of OFFICIAL form stating that the copyright has been released.otherwise its youre word against theirs.

As a former photo industry worker, i can see the potential for a lot of mix ups here.My advice: If they wont give you a copyright release, i'd be leery of buying the cd.You never know if youll be able to print them or not.

This is what I am concerned about. I have tried printing pics at Walmart in the past. I would hate to spend that money and then only have the option of printing it out on my home printer since the quality isn't as good.

Rhiannon has a very good point - the flyers from disney say they give you a license, so before you ask for the cd, ask them to provide a paper copy of the copyright release. If they can't, don't buy unless you can print them yourself at home!

I bought the CD and printed my pictures at Target and had no problem what-so-ever.

When I was there in January, they gave me a form that says you have the right to reproduce the pictures on the cd. You can't sell them or use them for commercial purposes. I'm looking at mine now and it looks pretty official with lawyer speak, etc.

We had NO problems printing them out at Sam's Club (Which is owned by Wal-Mart). When you purchase the CD, they give you an official paper stating that the prints are yours. Supposedly, on the CD itself is the same document allowing you to print them wherever you would like.

Here's another great thread on this topic:

How is the quality of the printed pics? The ones we had looked really grainy online, I can't imagine they would have printed any better. Maybe it's better now? That was before they sold the cd's.

Wow...99.95 for the CD...How many pics? Is there a limit?

isnt the limit 300? You can go to several places, like the floridian or epcot and edit the photos before you leave the park, adding disney borders etc if you like that sort of thing. Also i believe if youve had more than 300 photos you can pick which ones you love and toss the ones that are over 300 photos.

Sounds like a huge savings to me, vs trying to lug my Huge NIKON digi camera all over the place..and risking breaking a 1500 dollar camera! Now i can rest easy and take my 200.00 kodak digi..and I will be buying lots of post cards for my scrap book :)

Thanks to those who replied. I appreciate the specific mention of Target and Sams as places that folks haven't had trouble with. Knowing that there is somewhere I won't have a fight about printing them is good to know. It sounds like a great value!

I would also like to know how the quality of the pictures is before spending the money. Is there anywhere that I can look at pics taken via photopass? Sounds like it would be a nice idea for our anniversary trip in May.

Sounds like a good deal if the quality is good. We are going for 2 weeks with a different couple each week, and 3 of the 4 people have never gone...We would get a lot of shots and then split the cost...but only if the quality is good enough to print 8x10...but it sounds like a good deal. :wizard:

You can also order the CD after you get home, you just can't get any of the additional borders, etc, that I believe are available if it is purchased in the parks.

You can view the photos online by registering at www.disneyphotopass.com, and entering the number of your photo pass card(s)

There is information in the "help" section of this website about ordering the CD after your trip.

Has anyone printed any pics that could let us know about quality?

PhotobearSam-I did not purchase the CD because of some mis-information we were given when we went to look at the pics. I do know of 2 local DIS families who did purchase the CD, one had the pics printed via Snapfish, the other @ Target. Both came out really good, I'd say 8 X 10 would be the largest you'd want anyway & that's what 1 of them printed (for some of their pics).

Here's a link to a thread I had posted on from a while back & it gave info on the resolution, etc.. from a Disney email.
