OK I want to know how the wedding photographers make those cd's that you can just look at pictures but you can't print or otherwise save it oranything so that they guarantee taht you are using them for the prints. People have expressed that I should use something like this becuase my website gives (and honestly it does) not the best quick view proof of their pictures. What program do you guys use for this or how do i make one??? I have an event tomorrow and need to make a cd like this, otherwise i take the risk that they wil lnot be ordering as many prints and prob taking the cd to eckerds or something?? help!!!

There is no way you can truly protect yourself. Just put low quality images good enough for the web on the CD. Some photographers charge more for the package and give the CD for free.

In fact this is what Disney does with their wedding photography CD. We got all the images at low quality (good enough for the web). We could have bought the high resolution CD at some exhorbitant rate, but decided to wait.

I agree with Safetymom, there is no such thing.

If it can be displayed it can be printed and/or saved.

That being said full screen DVD VIDEO @ 720x480 might leave a decent 4x6 inch print but you dont even need to put an image that big on the DVD, just add some kind of border graphics and make the actual image smaller. Do not make a DATA CD/DVD, make a DVD video(vobs) that will play in stand alone DVD players this makes it a little bit more of a task to extact or copy.

Provide a low-res CD. There is no real way of protecting your high res pictures on a CD/DVD from being printed. There is a way to protect your entire DVD from being copied but that would cost you something in the order of $25K (last I checked) for the license. Same technology used to protect movie DVD by the large movie studios.

With this being said, in the new digital world of Wedding/Event Photography, you should look into getting paid for your time and expertise in creating the pictures upfront. This way you have been fairly compensated, give them the pictures/CDs and don't worry about reprints. Basically, make the money on your talent not by relying on someone to come to you for prints. That was the old model with film...

Of course, this does not apply to fine art photographs where you would not be giving hi-res CD out anyway.

This is just my opinion. There are many wedding photographers who will disagree with this as we all have our reasons to do things a certain way. :)

And we know it is impossible to copy those...

and that is why I am not spending the $25K... :) :)

25K would be a bank of PCs running <CENSORED> software... :) :)

I can't post the link yet, but google 'Pictures to Exe' by WNSoft - it'll create a cd slideshow in exe format, which is pretty good at preventing printing and screengrabs.
