Photo Board Assignment: Winter Scavenger Hunt, January-April, 2012

At night, there was another free concert…this time at the Myer Music Bowl.

2012-01-262012Jan26AustraliaDay087.jpg

There was a percussion band on stage, The More the Merrier, conducted by Sergei Golovko

2012-01-262012Jan26AustraliaDay001.jpg

Shall we call him The Grand Pooh Bah?

2012-01-262012Jan26AustraliaDay008.jpg

Sergei Golovko is supposed to be internationally known for playing the marimba and xylophone. He did come back on stage to play later in the concert…and here’s how he came back….Painting the Town Red.

I had Close but no cigar in mind. But I think DD pegged it with It takes two to tango

In the spirit of the Hunt...

we thought we'd take a little trek up to a neat, old burial ground where many of the Pilgrims from the Mayflower and other settlers of Plymouth, MA, are buried. Burial Hill

So far, so good. Nice, sunny day.

But being up there by himself apparently Gave him the willies and he couldn't jump down fast enough!

He waited for me to come get his camera, but I couldn't resist getting a shot from this unusual angle first :rotfl2: before he began Dropping like flies.
P1155945.jpg

I honestly didn't plan to include these shots but I noticed tonight when I was looking at them, a weird grey mist in the bottom right hand corner that wasn't in other shots in the series except this next shot, that also had it in a slightly different spot. :scratchin

P1155946.jpg

I know many people think of these things as Old wives tales but DS saw them and was like

I don't know what anyone else sees but looking closely we see a little "lady" in the second one that looks something like the "Hurry Baaack" lady from Haunted Mansion! :scared1:

We looked back on some of the other shots he took of the headstone and noticed in this shot that it belonged to a woman named Rebecah Sears, whose birthdate, I believe was July 29, 1783!

:scared1:

No offense, Rebecah - but Good Riddance!

It has been Raining cats and dogs here for more than a week so I have been unable to get out on my days off, so here it is at work:

This could also go under the title of Give me the willies as the birds are Willy Wagtails..!!

Nice pictures all.

Linda - Love the Elvis!

Heather - those Willies are so cute!

Chinese New Year - Melbourne Downtown Celebrations

Melbourne Chinatown held their celebrations on Sunday 29 Jan. Here's some of what I saw.

Writing on the Wall This sign is meant to deter people from graffiti'ing on the wall. Anyone else think there's an irony in this? :rolleyes1

Love is a Many Splendoured Thing I was marking out time waiting for the Lion and Dragon dances to commence, when this caught my eye.

Vicious Circle

The Dragon Dance on New Year’s Day is said to scare away the evil spirits and all the bad luck with them. The longer the dragon, the more good luck it brings. The Dragon follows a man carrying a ball on a stick, known as the "Pearl of Wisdom". It is said that the Dragon chasing this "pearl of wisdom" represents the Dragon's way to pursue insight and knowledge.

I delayed a little bit as one of the dances started with the ribbons…

Grand Pooh Bah This current Dai Loong in Melbourne was commissioned in 2003 and is named the Millenium Dragon. It is the largest processional dragon in the world and the head weighs 200 kg.

See the man in the White Shirt with the Red Tie holding up the right side of the dragon's head? He's the Grand Pooh Bah too. He is the current Premier of Victoria, Ted Ballieu. (I guess he's like your State Governers).

Thankfully for me, the next major event in town isn't going to happen until MARCH (so you might all be safe from more pictures until then ).

PrincessinOz - those Chinese New Year pictures are great! Looks like a fabulous celebration!
Those willy wagtails are the 2nd lot of 3 sets of baby birds I have had in a nest just outside my front door! There have been 7 babies in all and it has been wonderful watching them grow and then leave the nest! They hang around for a while after they leave the nest too playing in the garden!

A face only a mother could love. That is, until he tried to burn down her castle in another vain attempt to catch Robin Hood.

And I'm now very proud of my picture, since that makes 10 topics and I have finished my first scavenger hunt! :cheer2: (I'm going to keep trying for pictures cause it's fun though.)

Hey, where'd everyone go??

Helllllllloooooooo out there! Anyone here?

I'm still here....but I have kaput'er problems. Got a message that my hard drive failure was likely. :sad2:

I've been busy backing up everything, double and triple, and shopping for a new computer.

Let's keep this going! :cheer2:

I know people are out there shooting - let's get your shots posted!

Savour the Moment

Just for a bit of fun, my company has launched a photography competition which they plan to run regularly. The inaugural photography competition topic was "Festive".

Each employee is allowed to submit up to two pictures.

Judging is by two 'panels'. The first was by a popular vote of all entries.....all employees were allowed to vote for the picture they liked the best.
The second is by a panel of photography 'professionals'.

Every picture (anonymous) is judged by both panels.

I missed out on the populous vote. But what can I say? I'm used to not being popular.

But the "professional judged" category..... :rolleyes1

The second verse of the Australian National Anthem starts with:

"Beneath our Radiant Southern Cross"....which is the caption for my picture below.

2012-01-262012Jan26AustraliaDay120.jpg

I won first prize, which is a $200 voucher to one of the photography shops in Australia. :dance3:

Savouring the moment right now!
