If it's September in Melbourne, it means spring, school holidays, Aussie Rules football finals and the Royal Melbourne Show (previously shared).
Spring
Foliage in Melbourne looks like this. No Falling Leaves to be found!
And DS and I have also gone to the Melbourne Zoo during this school holidays.
A remnant from last autumn....
Leaf Pile
Scarecrow
Spider and Web. It's a Redback Spider - one of the most venomous around!
What Scares Me - this elephant came sliding down the hill. I'd hate to be in its way if it trips over!
Spooky (or Creepy) Trails
And the Australian Rules Grand Final week? We've had a week of festivities!
Football Match (related)
I have the priviledge of heading into the Members area this week again. Sadly, its not on Grand Final day. The Melbourne Cricket Ground played host to over 99K people on Grand Final day today.
The match was contested by two teams, one of them being Collingwood. Collingwood is the team that is the most loved and the most hated in the 18 team competition. Naturally, their colours are black and white.
Because of this scav hunt, I made the effort to head out to the last training session for the Collingwood team. It was opened to their fans. And have a look at their fanatics!
Costumed Revelers
A
Ghostly Apparition of a Skull-(no-et)
The training session, at times, was close enough for a
Football Game. I know....not really....but I wasn't going to fork out $750 for a scalper's ticket for the match....just for a photograph! And this was really my last opportunity for catching any Aussie Rules Football action for the season. All the other local leagues would have finished their season at least 3 or 4 weeks ago.
Why did I go see Collingwood? Well....their mascot is the Magpie....a
Black (and White) Crow
One of the traditions of Grand Final week is the Grand Final Parade, held on the Friday before the big game. The parade is all about the players....they are driven in a motorcade through the city for about 3 km. I haven't missed a parade for over 15 years...and this year was no exception.
Yup....marching bands, complete with
Fife and Drum kick off the procession!
The other team playing in the finals is Geelong, my team!

The mascot for Geelong is the Cat.
I'd like to say it was a
Black Cat, but unfortunately the team colours are Navy Blue and White.
And all throughout the city.....no
Fall Flag....but plenty of
Football Flags!
Fall Food? My lunch after the Parade is definitely more for the winter months. Indian Curry and Saffron Rice!
