We will need to phone home most days while we are away. What is the cheapest way to do this?

Most people use a phone card from various outlets.

We have always used a phone card from seven eleven, DH phones home nearly everyday and usually a $20 card last us 3 weeks.

Yeah I also use phone cards. You normally get quite alot out of them and they're easy to pick up at most places!

We use £10 phonecards, gives you about 30-45 mins you can get them from holiday hypermarket, first choice at the currency counter, virgin do them too if your flying with them, only prob you can only get them at the welcome meeting.
Hope this helps and you have a wonderful time. :goodvibes

Thank goodness for phone cards- after the amount of time my DD spent on the phone to her boyfriend last time, I hate to think what it would've cost otherwise:scared1:. We usually get ours at Walgreens.

I buy a £5 phone card in this country which gives about 1000 minutes to the USA and then give the number to my parents etc so that they can call us, you can give the number to loads of people and chances are you still wouldn't run out of minutes. :goodvibes

Yes phonecards are the best way to phone home. DO NOT use your resort room it will cost you a fortune!!:scared1:

I have found that the cards with not so low cost per minute and no connect (per call) charge work out better than the ultra low cost per minute with a connect charge. Typically a connect charge counts as 20 to 50 minutes.

Too many times I get a bad connection or an answering machine, and with connect charges, you do not get much talk time if you make lots of short calls.

All calling cards have a connect charge from pay phones (a second connect charge for cards that have a connect charge from all phones)

Sometimes at a hotel you may find a non-pay phone in the lobby that makes 800 (toll free) calls and after just one or two tries you can find out whether it results in no additional connect charge for you card.

Take a laptop and use Skype. Costs less than 1p per minute or free if you call another Skype user.
