My DS just called the house phone and said my cell seems to be set to not accept calls/send them straight to voicemail, but I had DH try, and it rang fine. I obviously haven't blocked my DS, but I know there are still plenty of things I haven't learned to do with my phone, so there some other setting I could have messed up by accident?

Have you checked your settings? Try talking to the cell company and they can take you step by step. Or visit for example your local cell company's store and they should be able to resolve whatever is going on rather quickly.

Do you have a "do not disturb" time set? On my phone (Android, but I think you can do the same on iPhone), I have 10p - 8a set as "Do Not Disturb". This means I get no notifications for calls or texts between those times except for those contacts I specifically allow. I just wonder if you have that set but your DS isn't listed as an exception.

Do you see a missed call from your DS on your cell?

I would double check (maybe you did) that you didn't accidently block your DS.

Lastly, I would have DS try to call you again. It IS possible there was some glitch in the matrix and the call didn't go through right.

I will check that. I haven't done that on purpose, bit you never know what buttons the cat stepped on. :rotfl:

No, but he would have hung up very quickly and not left a message.

I did check that right away, but it's not the issue.

I will when he gets home. (He called me from the car on his way to work - he has one of those that connects.)

I don't know if this is the case for you, but I live out in the middle of nowhere with pretty poor cell signal. There have been times that someone tried to call me and it went straight to voicemail because reception was too poor for connection. Not sure if reception could be an issue for you in this case but it has been for me in the past.

Nope, not that.

I would ASSUME that if he got the message that it's going to VM, your phone should have registered the missed call. When he gets home, check his phone for the made calls also. Maybe he accidently called someone else or has your number misprogrammed.
He has called me other times, so I know the number is programmed in, but I will have him check the log to make sure he didn't hit someone else's.

Not usually, no. We're in a pretty populated area. I'd say he just drove through a dead spot, but he's had trouble with just my phone before, too.

Latest weird bit of info - DH says he gets a message that my notifications are off when he texts me...but the texts still go through, and they are definitely on:

I would have your son try to call you again. See if it rings and/or shows a 'missed call' from him. Cell phones can be glitchy at times or there might have been a tower issue that caused the call to not go through. I have had strange things happen at times with my phone, restarted phone, waited 30 minutes and then it worked fine. I agree with you that calling one of those 'customer service' numbers is my LAST resort. They usually seem to know less about the phone then me and mostly are in the 'try this/try that' mode. I honestly think they hire new employees, give them a list of answers to the 10 most commonly asked questions and provide ZERO training for anything else. If your question isn't one on their list, they generally are no help and just a frustrating waste of your time.

What carrier do you have? I haven’t heard anything today, but AT& T has had several issues of calls & some texts not going thru the last couple of months. We have Verizon but the first time AT&T had problems, Verizon was affected in some places too.

Don't feel bad @PollyannaMom, I just bought a new Android phone and I can't get it to stay connected to my home wifi. I've tried every trick I could find through Google, but nothing is working. I'm not tech savvy enough for this stuff. My years of not learning about all this stuff is starting to show.

Boy is this true. And amazing how many places close to home have zero cell service. We were at a State Park 60 miles from home yesterday, in the mountains. We took a tour of a Gold Rush era town, and a little girl about 9 years old pointed to all the pay phones in the area and asked what it was. Even had a phone book with it! It is amazing that decades and decades ago the phone company strung phone cable in to this remote area and it is still almost the only link to the outside world because there is absolutely zero cell service there. The Park Rangers do have two way radios, the state put in enough repeaters sot that they can communicate on them, but the pay phones are there for visitors and folks who camp there. I guess a HAM operator might be able to communicate, but not sure with the mountains.

This happens to us periodically. There have been a couple of instances where we've unintentionally blocked each other or had our phones on a focus that didn't have our numbers plugged into the override settings. Sometimes, it's just the carrier. We had A&T when we moved into our current home and we constantly had dead zone issues...even within our own home. We switched to TMobile and it's drastically improved, but there are still a few dead zones where things go straight to voicemail. For example, my favorite supermarket is a dead zone. It's so bad that my phone may read SOS from some parts of the store and it's a struggle to get their app working in the parking lot for grocery pickup. DH prefers Androids and I prefer iPhones. We've found that different brands work better in different places.
