Hi, I think I had a phone interview today and I'm not feeling too great on how I did.

I sent my resume in for a job. They called me back this morning....I thought she simply wanted to set up an appointment for a intereview but she started asking me questions and giving me scenerios. I answered all of her questions to the best of my knowledge. I think I did ok, but I would have been a lot more well spoken if I was prepared. I just feel like I was caught off guard and could have done a lot better. Its my fault really because I should have been aware that places of employment do phone interviews. At the end of our conversation she did ask if I would like to come in for a 1st interview....thats a plus!

If she was unhappy with my phone interview would she have set up a first intereview with me? I'm just trying to see if I'm being to hard on myself for not being preepared on the phone today. If she was unhappy with my phone interview maybe she wouldnt want to see me again for a first interview, right? Thanks

You did fine. The phone interview was meant to be an initial screening. If the interviewer didn't think you were still a good candidate, she wouldn't have set up an in-person interview with you. Good luck!

When I interviewed for the bank I work for, the first of many interviews was over the phone. They called me to set up a time for the phone interview, if they asked you diffrent scenerios, it does sound just like what I went through. Maybe after they had you on the phone they figured they would get one of them out of the way. You must of did great if they asked you to come in for an inperson interview.. Good luck on your interview....

DH had an interview like that last summer. He thought that he was just chatting with the secretary or someone, turns out it was a memner of the hiring committee doing an intial screening/1st interview. At the end of the phone call they asked to schedule a 2nd interview, DH was caught slightly off guard as he didn't realize it was an interview type call. He did get the job, so they must have liked what he had to say.

Essentially, it might not be as bad as you think it was. It sounds like they were trying to develop a picture of who you are outside a formal interview.

I would think that this serves a variety of purposes. Many jobs require critical thinking skills and decision making, and expect new employees to hit the ground running. By catching you off guard the interviewer is able to basically assess how fast you think on your feet. How well you know your stuff by being able to intelligently answer her questions, in a quick manner. What is that people need to prepare for? You send out a resume and when they call be ready to sell yourself. This is not really too difficult a concept. Remember this is the first contact that they have with you, anyone can look good on paper!:confused3

Why would your DH not ask who is he speaking to? that would have been my first question!
