I have a few questions before we leave for BWV. I know there is a charge to use the phone in the rooms at WDW. I think I paid $.75 per call last year at the Contemporary, but calling WDW dining was free. Is it less expensive for DVC members, or was that a figment of my imagination($.35)? More importantly, is there a charge to receive calls in your room? Also, if I understand this right, Trash and Towel day will fall on Thursday morning, if we check-in on Monday. Would it be possible to have the date changed to Wednesday, since we are shortening our trip by a night, and checking out Friday? Thanks in advance for the information.

800 numbers are free. Local calls are .35. Incoming calls are free. Be sure to check your bill when you leave, sometimes there are errors on the phone charges. I know I am happy about the cost. I stood in line last visit behind a non-dvc person who had questions about the phone charges, they really were hit hard because they pay .75 for each call, even 800 numbers.
I am not sure about changing TT because I have never made this request, but I would ask, I don't see why you would be denied this request.

When you check in you can request they change your T&T date..I've done this many times. I usually follow up with housekeeping on the morning I made the change for, just to confirm they have received the change too..most times, they had the request too.

I just returned from BWV in early May and ALL outgoing calls are .75 for regular guests and .35 for DVC Members.
this includes outgoing 800 calls.
Incoming calls are free.
Be sure to have a hotel operator connect you with WDW Dining thru their system and not dial WDW-Dine or you will be charged .35

You have to watch them!
My mom used our room phone to dial my cell phone and talked to me for (1) minute and the call was $6.75.
I hollered about that but since it was long distance they said sorry!
Good Luck

You have to watch the phone charges! My wife made a 7 minute call to home - price $17, or about what my one month bill is back at home.

If you have to make long distance calls, you could try using your cell phone. We always take ours. We have Sprint PCS and WDW is in their coverage area. Since it is a national network, there are no roaming charges. We have had a good signal at OKW, WL, and BC.

Hope this helps.

When we were just there in April, there was no charge at all for credit card calls. My family made quite a few calls this way and so I checked to make sure, but I was glad that they were free.

When I was at OKW last week, they did not charge for the 800# calls I made to my office. 35 cents for local calls, no time limit (I had my laptop and left it online for long periods).

Valerie,
That is what I meant about watching your bill. 800 numbers are supposed to be free to DVC members. Local calls are .35 and if you use your computer to go online it is still only a .35 charge, just like it was for DebbieB who stayed at OKW last week.

Ann,
We never did make any 800 calls or any others using the phone (other than the one my Mom made) because I asked them specifically when we checked in what the policy was for DVC Members making outgoing calls.
They told me .35 for DVC members for ALL outgoing calls.
So we might have been able to make outgoing 800 calls for free but we just used our Sprint PCS phones because all of our long distance calls are free.
I heard that 800 calls were free and they certainly were last year that is why I asked them this time.
I'm not sure now after reading some of the replies.
Who knows??

We always bring a calling card for long distance calls to avoid the SUPER overcharge from the hotel service.

We've made both 800 calls which were free, and local calls several times from OKW. Once when we checked out with 2 local calls charged to our account they just told us it was all set. Not something I've encountered in my business travels. A little unwritten DVC benefit I guess.

Just to be sure everyone knows, calling long-distance from WDW hotels (and most hotels elsewhere as well) gets very expensive. They charge a very high per minute rate to start and then tack on a surcharge of at least 50% of the cost of the call. Usually there is a card by the phone that tells you the surcharge rate. In most cases, calling from your room to a cell phone you've brought from home would be a long-distance call. It's best to have some other plan for long-distance calls such as a calling card or pre-paid phone card.

I don't see how they could change the policy for 800 numbers without letting members know. I also don't think that they would be free at OKW and not BWV. My experience with Disney has always been that if I don't like the answer that I get then I just keep asking. There seems to always be miscommunication problems within Disney.

Last March while at BWV I used my AT+T phone charge card for several long distances calls and did not received any room charges. AT+T is the "preferred" long distance service and there are no surcharges added on if you use AT+T.
