can I have my phone charger in carry-on or does it have to be in checked luggage. Thank you

There's no reason why you couldn't bring a phone charger in a carry-on. I always bring a charger, cable, and spare battery pack for mine when I fly.

All my electronics are in my carry on bag. I have a special zip-loc bag they go into. My camera goes in there, my cell phone goes in. Then, once past security, the phone comes out and back into my pocket. You don't have to do that....it's just easier for me to have everything in that one bag.

As the PP's noted, there is no problem at all with electronics and their chargers in your carryon bag. TSA won't bat an eye at them as they see this every day.

As you are going through security you can keep all of those things in your carry on. However, if you are taking a laptop, that will need to come out to go through security in a separate bin.

You must not have flown through a major airport in some time. All i see in the gate area's are people charging different devices at any socket they can find. Cords and cables everywhere.

To clarify, is this a charger that plugs into the wall, or a lithium external battery charger? I hate being a wall hugger.
  • Lithium batteries may need extra care to prevent a short. I apply masking tape over exposed contacts to prevent a short mid-flight.
  • Camera lithiums are often sold with a plastic cover or case.
  • Batteries are heavy, I have them in my coat or pant pockets to minimize weight penalties in my luggage.
