Phone call from Baghdad!!!

My cousin who is in the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force called home from Baghdad last night!!!!!!!!

Someone was letting them use their phone and they each had six minutes. My aunt said he sounds great and is NOT injured (that was her one question). They left Kuwait on Mar 18 and made their way north to Baghdad. Now they're securing the city....but plans are that as soon as the large Army division arrives from the south, his group will head back to Kuwait and to a ship for a few months. He has received a little mail but now that things are slowing down more should be able to get to him.

This is such a relief. After I heard from my aunt I realized it felt like I'd been holding my breath for the last few weeks. Just wanted to share some GREAT news with you all.....

I don't know how you do it. God Bless you!! I really am sorry that you haven't heard from your son in over a month. I give you lots of credit. I don't think I could have made it through all of this without having to be able to e-mail and have calls from my husband. When I start feeling sorry for myself, I try to think of the moms and wives like you who haven't heard anything. I wish I could give up some of my calls so that your son could call you.

I did get my dh to give up some of his calls to us to call his mom. She was so shocked and happy.

I know you said they probably weren't going to send him home until the end of the deployement. I have been praying that they will send him home soon. I heard on TV that some of the marines out in the field are going to be going home and the army will be moving in. I hope so bad that he gets to come home.

Thanks for being such an inspiration to me. Your uplifting spirit has helped me get through my tough time.

I "think" the Army's 4th ID is taking over for some of the Army's 3rd ID and the Marines who have been there from the get go. Our friend (5th corp) is actually moving north and he has been there for months(Army does not get the press Marines do, but they are in Baghdad and other areas of Iraq also). But I think this replacement is for active duty units and not reservists. ??
Anyway, so glad to hear your Aunt got a call! I know what that is like ! Hope you hear something soon Twinmom! Hang in there!
