My latest attempt at my War on Shins...

I decided to try some orthotics out...a friend of mine has been having lots of trouble with her legs (not shin splints) and told me about a pair of running shoes she just purchased that had the Orthaheel built in. Not wanting to purchase a pair of running shoes that possibly might not work I went for just purchasing the insert. I must tell you that I am loving this insert (okay it has only been a little over a week of walking and running in them). In addition we were buying the kids new shoes and I stumbled upon some Xensa heel/ankle compression sleeves...who knew! One on the first things that happens right before the shins flair is ankle pain/heaviness...so I thought I would try these out and see if they helped with that problem, so far so good.

Plus I am icing every night before I go to bed and really using my golf ball on the bottom of my foot.

Maybe I can put the shin thing behind me...I have been pain free in all walks and runs this past week! :banana: Managing 2 5K runs and a 4 mile run yesterday.

Pain free runs are always exciting!!! I'm glad you are arming your arsenal for the war on shin splints!!!

As far as playlist. I'm probably the weirdest person on this thread. I went from listening to no music to old army cadence for my runs. I remembered when I was prior military how we use to have to run for miles and miles at a time while singing cadences. So if it worked then it can work now.

Congrats Tammie on being pain free! I am hoping it stays that way given that you have been going a week already. Very promising!

So I ran the Lake Placid Half Marathon this weekend with my sister and our friend. It was a hot race for that area (temps in the 70s mid 80s by the end of the day). And there were some killer hills! The last 3/4 of a mile you go up a very steep hill, turn the corner, another steep short hill, turn the corner again, and yet another steep hill! Then you finish out in the Olympic Speed Skating oval which is really neat, but it is a big white concrete oval with no shade and blazing sun. So this was one of the toughest halves for me. I was hoping to be a bit faster, but given the challenging course and the hills, I am proud. It was our friend's first half, my sister's 3rd, and my 8th. We dressed on the Incredibles and everyone loved it! It is so nice to dress up because then people cheer for you because they can yell, "nice skirt" or "you're incredible!" vs "go runner in the yellow shirt." I am not too sore considering, but I think it is because my sister and I had to walk to our hotel after to shower and that was about 1 mile away, then back to lunch which was another mile so that helped keep things loose. Here are a few pictures. The first is me finishing. My chip time was 1:57:09. The second is of my sister (L), me (M), and our friend (R).

Happy running!

WOOT WOOT...Way to go Jenn. I am looking at your time and BOWING! I hope to finish under 3 hours...lol

Thank you so much Tammie! I am sure you can finish under 3 hrs! My sister and I were walking back to our hotel and we saw the half marathoners who were finishing and everyone on that course and any other course I have been on are an inspiration to me. I find it easy to get into my head and get wrapped up in my time, but I have to remind myself that every race and course is different and that I am proud of my body for what it was able to accomplish.

DH and I are registering for some a fall half, he has his full in Oct, and I have my full in Nov. I cannot wait to get started with my training!

Awesome time on the half marathon! You are so fast!

Tammie, woohoo on pain free running!!!

Jenn, woohoo on the 1/2!!! I am jealous of you time!!!!

So, my quest for the GSC round 2 is in jeopardy. I really don't think DH is interested in going or interested in supporting me going. I would go alone in a heartbeat but I don't think he's keen on that either.
Not sure what I'm going to do.

Oh no...my dd bailed on me this week...she would rather go on a senior trip then run with mom. My BFF from college also bailed...crossing my fingers that Debra still wants to go with me and possibly Amy (a cupcake that has not gotten on and introduced herself).

Sending you some pixie dust.

Debra - Enjoy your Ragnor!

~~~
I got signed up for the Rebel Challenge today for Star Wars Weekend. Suddenly I'm really glad I had planned on using the couch to half marathon app for ToT.
Ragnar was amazing! I will get something posted on our PTR this week.
How exciting about Rebel Challenge!!
Debra - WOW! What an adventure! I'm heading to Chicago tomorrow for a long weekend.
Ragnar was truly amazing! I am still trying to process it all. So many wonderful memories & new friends made.
Have a great race - what a fun challenge! I've never been to WI so I would love to do that someday (although key west would be fun too)
All 3 of my legs were in WI, but my favorite leg was my final one where I got to run along Lake Michigan :cloud9:
Have a great time! It is such an experience, there is nothing like it. My advice, pull your van over when ever you can and cheer everyone and have dance parties on the side of the road. That is a must for our team and it always makes it so much fun and the other teams really appreciate it.
It was a wonderful experience. My van (van 1) had wonderful support for each other (wish I could say the same for van 2).
Cupcake Friday
(As if being Friday is not sweet enough)
Mango Passion Fruit, Macadamia Nut, & Lemon-Ginger Cupcakes
POLY-Captain Cook’s
[/SIZE][/B]
Sadly none of these seem very exciting to me, so I will drink another Lapu Lapu :rolleyes1 Just kidding...
Been following Debra on her posts on FB about Ragnar!
Keep running strong Debra!
Ragnar was AMAZING...AMAZING...AMAZING! I will write something up this week & get a recap posted here.
I am going! Promise! Pretty sure Harper wont be, but I will.
No kidding about Lapu Lapus allowed! I say if you don't want the cupcakes, you MUST have another drink! ;)
I cannot wait to hear ALL about it. I want to do a Ragnar so bad but I'm not sure HOW to do it. It seems like it would be a lot of money for me (I live in rural MO so some traveling involved) but also just nervous but totally intrigued! Sounds like you had a blast! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2
Hope you figure it out! Maybe he'll come around in you going alone? Your older kids should be able to help around the house while you are out right?
There were unlimited amounts of Vadar & Yoda cupcakes at the Feel the Force dessert party from my Star Wars weekend trip. I had 2 of each + Salted Caramel Darth Maul Bars + Ice Cream + more fat kid food. There was also unlimited beverages. I may have had about 5 of those :cool1: Best $50 per person spent for a dessert party/parade viewing area. Totally better than Magic Kingdom's uninspired one or EPCOT's overpriced option. Although, with it doing so well this year, I wouldn't be shocked if they increased the cost next year :(
I am so happy you had a nice time at Ragnar! It is such an experience and one that you cannot replicate with any other race. I am happy your van was so supportive, but sorry the other van wasn't. Did you sleep in the vans or get hotel rooms? We get hotels and it is so nice to be able to shower and sleep on a comfy bed even if it is only for a few hours.
Great time for your half!!!!
Thanks!
That sounds wonderful! We have been thinking about doing one of the dessert parties. What did you not like about the MK or EPCOT ones?
I ran this morning, a hilly, but easy 3 miles and man my legs just felt like rocks and a tad weak. It is just my quad and hip flexors. I have a massage later this week which will be great. Now to figure out this marathon training plan and when to start!
I am getting excited because in less than a month I can register for the GSC! :hyper: And according to my counter, in 25 days we will be in Disney! DH and I filled out the paper work for the contest we won. We hope to go next June, but it was tempting to have that be our trip for the GSC. But I wanted to enjoy each trip for what it is! We opted to stay an extra day in the resort they book for us, which is hopefully the Polynesian. DH wants to stay in the Contemporary, but I do not like it at all. He said it is just one of those places that always interested him. Oh well, he will be happy at the Polynesian especially given the number of cupcakes, pineapple drinks, and kona coffee!
We were talking last night because DH wants to go to Aulani as do I and he was trying to see if we can swing it next year. We have the points to do it, and we have his sister in LA so we would stop there on the way. But then we looked at flights from LA to Oahu and decided we need more time to save so it looks like we are planning for summer of 2016. We are planners for sure! Time to start the Aulani vacation fund account :).
Jenn 1:57 min that is swoon worthy!!! That was a wonderful time and y'all outfits are so, so cute!!!
Hey ladies, we are doing a stop thru on the way to Miami/ Ft. lauderdale tomorrow. Does anyone know where I can get a nice souvenir beach /pool Disney themed towel. I need a birthday gift for one of my kids friends who's on swim team. And you can never have enough towels when you are on swim team.
Are there any shops or resorts that I can buy them from?
We won't be going to Any parks just stopping thru eating and resting and then heading to Miami.
I know it is not a souvenir exactly, but I have seen Disney themed towels at Target and Walmart. I suppose they would never know if you got it there or not. Other than that, I am not much help.
I keep thinking about you and the Peachtree run. It seems like such an awesome race!
