PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

Amy - Congrats on finishing the 10 miler! Awesome!:cool1:

Tammie - you got a lot of miles in this week! I hope the doctor can help you fix your pain issues.

Me too...thanks! Not doing so great this week already with distance...darn wind and schedule today has prevented me from getting out there!

Woohoo!! Great job! Are you going to use that time for your proof of time submission?n
I need to find a 10 miler to submit a time for PHM. I lucked out last year with not having a submitted time, I got M corral. But I may not be that lucky next time.

I think the 10K time has to be from a race 6 months from PHM...but someone correct me!

I took over the whole dining room for a craft room, but now I am rethinking it. Space is at a premium in this house so I need to get rid of some stuff.

I wish I had a room to take over...hmmm dd is leaving for college in a year...:confused3

Hello ladies!!! I've been hardcore lurking on this thread...not joining since PHM currently isn't in my plans for 2015. :( I did spectate the Princess Half this year and it was so much fun, you ladies will have a blast!!

Just wanted to say that I've enjoyed following along and am loving the positive, supportive vibe here. :) Happy running!!

Thank you...I have had too much mean girl in my life to allow this thread to go that way...

I've been reading through the past few days...made it to page 24 before getting the nerve up to post.

Glad you got up the nerve...we really aren't scary unless you don't share a cupcake!

My name is Samantha, and I'm a stay at home mom to two boys, 8 and 10. I'm a former Disney Store CM, an Odyssey of the Mind coach at our elementary school, a Webelos den cub scout leader (not because I want to be...I got tricked into it, lol!!), and a cupcake fan.

Scouting family here...DD is a Gold Award for Girl Scouts...Life Boy Scout...and Wolf Cub...dh is the den leader for the Wolves...by default...LOL

The 2014 PHM was on my birthday, so I decided to make PHM 2015 a day-before-my-birthday gift to myself.

Love your birthday gift to yourself!

Right now I have no race experience. I have 9 days to decide if I'm going to sign up for my first 5K. I know I can do it, but I'm so intimidated. I know I need to just suck it up so I can get in a couple of 10Ks to get a time to submit for PHM.

I know how intimdating races can be...that is why I have to always find ones that I can hide in. I don't like to be last! LOL

My husband and kids are very supportive, but I don't have a group of friends who are interested.

I don't either really, that is "REAL" life friends...but making lots of virtual friends who support and care!

I run in the mornings after I drop my kids off at school. This morning it was pouring rain so I opted to do the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred level one. That workout used to kick my butt, but today I could hang in there. I'm proud that my endurance is getting better.

YAY...Jillian is a killer!

We are headed to WDW in August and upgrading to APs for our February trip. I keep telling as many people as I can about running the Princess b/c I'm trying to keep myself accountable.

I struggle to see myself as a "real" runner, so I love how positive you all are. It's motivating.

I'm subbing in and I'll try to keep up as soon as I catch up on the whole thread!

I don't like to consider myself a runner either...just because there are so many people serious about running and I don't want to discredit all that they do...

So glad you are here!

We can call each other "funners" fun runners or runners who do it for fun!!

Does anyone have any reviews or have done the Diva series. I am going back and forth between this and Savannah Rock N Roll.

I am excited to report that I have convinced a co-worker to run the half with me in Feb! I have been wanting someone to train with and prepare for the excitement and I got it....

Only trouble now is it is raining a lot and I have lost my motivation to go out and run. It sounded like a fun 'adventure' when I was at work...not so much anymore.

a friend will help in those dark winter days - lucky! I trained alone last time and it just kept snowing. you have time but invest in a nice rain jacket if you don't have one so rain won't get you down.

I just wish I new more runners that are tolerant of FUNNERS...sadly where I live it is not that way!

I have heard good things about both series and want to do both!

Raining does make it hard...now the cold I have gotten used to! My issue here is the wind...maybe a gym membership for a while until the sky clears.

Oh gosh, I am sure I have quite a few! Um...lets go with "Far From Over" by Frank Stallone (Stayin' Alive soundtrack)

I am going to have to check that one out the title itself really seems to lend to running...because most of the time it is FAR FROM OVER...I have a lot of 70s and 80s music...OH OH STAYIN ALIVE!

Music Mondays

April 7th

Name a song on your playlist that you beat no one else has....

Cinderella by Off By One.

They were a small punk rock band that was popular when I was in high school. I find their album to be great running music!

I have Leonard Nimoy's Ballad of Bilbo Baggins on mine. I am betting no one else does!

I have three:

Don't Fear the Reaper- Blue Oyster Cult
World of a King- David Mead
Pink Warrior - Candy Coburn (the 3 day/60 mile Komen walk theme song- did this in honor of my aunt in 2010 and saw her perform it live!)

As I was typing my response Roxy Music started on my playlist - one of my favorites!

I have "Ohio (Come Back to Texas)" by Bowling for Soup on my playlist, although I have decided it's not a great running song because it has slow breaks.

Anyone else have that one?

I am a huge jazz fan. Though I do not run to music my post race ritual is to hear
"What A Wonderful World"by Louis Armstrong. It's sentimental. I miss my mom and I often miss her alot around mile 10 when it gets tough.... Anyway, that's my ritual song sort of reflection time of the race and to gather my thoughts.

I love the variety of music you guys are suggesting! :thumbsup2

Ed Sheeran just released a song called SING yesterday, I ran to it today and LOVED it. I might be a little bias though b/c I love Ed Sheeran. What can I say? Gives me something in common with my 13 year old. ;)

I have a friend who did one of the Diva half marathons in California somewhere late last year, she said it is a great race series. Well put together.

I have another friend running the Myrtle Beach race this month. Don't know if she has done any of their races in the past or not.

I don't know anyone off hand who has done RnR Savannah, but I always hear for the most part good things about the RnR series. I am doing Vegas in Nov & thinking about New Orleans next year. Will also be doing Dallas next year.

I struggle to see myself as a runner too. I see myself more like the horse motivated by the string carrot over his head. Only in this case, it's Cupcakes, Alcohol & a trip to Disney.
Oh, this is me, too. I don't really dislike running (which is shocking, as I had totally PLANNED to hate it with a passion), but I definitely need that Disney "carrot" there to keep me moving!

I am Girl Scout Leader to both my older girls & soon to be to my youngest (next year). Def. keeps you busy, huh? It's like another full time job for me! But I love doing it...
We joined cub scouts when we moved here two years ago, to help all of us meet people...they asked if we'd be interested in helping and I said "sure!" thinking I was going to be bringing snacks or something. Then the guy turns around and says, "hey I found our new Bear leaders!" Um...Ok? So last year I led Bears and moved up with them to Webelos this year. I also pulled double duty and did a month an a half of Bear den this year and made my husband lead Webelos during that time. I spend so much time planning meetings and keeping everyone on track. You're right, it is like a job. I enjoy it most of the time, lol. I can't say I love it.

Samantha Welcome:cheer2::cheer2:

I am a SAHM with very active children and understand!!
You are a real runner if you RUN!!
Here is the thing. Upfront runners are not friendly they are determined. Front of the pack runners God bless them train hard and are serious rightfully so!
Mid pack and back of the pack runners are very supportive and cheerful. There has never been any race that I have not received encouragement or given encouragement. Please dont feel intimidated. You deserve to be there. Sign up for the 5k get race experience. The running community are very supportive. We are happy you joined us. Us busy moms need to have something for ourselves I have seen too many times we neglect ourselves for the sake of our family. My family loves me more because I can serve them more when I am healthy and active.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome! You're right about needing something for myself. I feel like as the years go on and the kids have more activities, I give up all of my own things. I'm trying to get better about that and I'm making time for what I want to do.

Welcome! I say sign up for the 5K. It will give you some race experience & I can almost guarantee you will be hooked!

We are here to support each other :thumbsup2

I'm trying to talk myself into it. It might be one of those things where I tell my husband to just sign me up and then tell me about it later, LOL.

So glad you are here!

That's kind of how I feel. I have some people I went to high school with that run A LOT. They are what I call "real" runners. One has ran the NY Marathon and the Boston Marathon for the past two years, and the other two run a race practically every weekend. Halfs, fulls, and a couple of weeks ago they did a 50K obstacle race. I don't think that's for me!

Thank you so much to all of you for the warm welcome! I'm really bad at pulling quotes out for my replies, but hopefully I got everyone. When I have a little more time I'll make one of those little "about me" bio things with a picture.

Tammie, just so you know, I responded to your email and for some reason it was returned? No clue why, just didn't want you to think I was ignoring you if you didn't get it!! :confused3
