PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

I finished my 10 K yesterday. I haven't seen the official results, but I didn't think it was terrible for my 1st time running that distance. I was however the very last person to cross the finish line. The Jr. High cheerleaders were there cheering for me just like everyone else. This was a small local race and everyone was encouraging and supportive. Tammy - great job on the Blue Bell run! I hope your trip back home is safe!
great job! Last place is still a place and a finish! Treat yo self and be proud!

Congrats!!! Yhea on finishing your first 10K!

Doesn't matter if you were first or last to cross that finish line!!! It matters only that you did it!!!!

Way to go!!!

Great job on finishing!

Since it's your first one it's an automatic PR! Finishing is always a win. Congrats

Thanks for the congrats and encouraging words ladies! I was very happy just to finish, but now I want to do another one! All of my weekends are booked now though until after May 20! It's a busy time of year for us.

Congrats on your first 10k and for Tammy running as well! It doesn't matter when you finish just as long as you finish. As they say, finishing is winning! I wish there were more 10ks, that is such a great distance. Up by me, there are very few. 10ks and 15ks are just enough of a challenge.

I had to run 16 miles on Saturday and it was awesome! I have been following the Galloway method for my long runs and it is amazing how good I feel and I am still able to keep a great pace. I ran my first 6 miles with some friends so there were no walk breaks. Then I did the last 10 miles by myself and felt strong. In fact, my last mile was a fast 8:45 pace with a walk break in there! I couldn't believe it! I rewarded myself with a nice treat on Sunday, ice cream! I cannot eat much after a long run so Saturday was not a good day to eat treats.

I talked to DH some more this weekend about the Glass Slipper Challenge and he is on board! We are starting to research flights and figure out when I should book our rooms, I can book AKL at 11 mths and then switch to BW at the 7 mth mark or I can hold out and book BW at the 7 mth mark. Not sure what I want to do yet, but I am so excited to run it!

I already know my costume for the Princess Half, Mary Poppins!

Great job with your run this weekend! Nice pace!

Glad your hubby is officially on board for PHM weekend! I have no idea where I am staying yet. Tammie & I have talked briefly about AKL renting points, but nothing has been decided. Otherwise, I might end up back at POR or POFQ...but splurging for a monorail resort would be nice too. :confused3

Yea for costumes! I think I have all 3 of mine figured out...but they are all subject to change a million more times.

Thanks! I was really happy with the pace. I have a Ragnar Relay in May so I have been following a marathon plan for it. My total mileage is around 20 miles so it is almost a marathon.

What are you planning for your costumes? 3? Are you doing the 5K too?

My sister and I are dressing as the Incredibles for our Lake Placid Half Marathon. We plan on dressing as Mike and Sulley for our Hartford Half and our Philadelphia Full marathons. For the Philadelphia marathon last year, we dressed as Dory. Well we had tutus that were blue and yellow and wore blue shirts with Dory and "Just Keep Swimming" on them. It was fun and people found it easy to cheer for us because they could yell, "nice tutus" "Go Dory!" It was so fun.

Ran 1.5 miles today, it was terrible! I could not get a good rhythm. Tomorrow is another day. I need to get off my tushy and get my diet and running under control. I've been a train wreck the last month.

On the cupcake front. I wish payday would get here! I am ordering the cherry blossom and cherry cheesecake cupcakes from Georgetown cupcakes. DH used to work in DC and surprised me with them last year. They only have the cherry blossom 2 months out of the year, and I love them!

I have been a train wreck too the last month. Today was Day #1 of getting myself back in control... with food- with exercise.

I did 1.37 miles today as well. My goal was only to try out my new shoes. So did ok.... I really want to sign up for a 10K to kick my rear in gear with training. Eyeballin' one in May.

I need to find a relatively close 10K this summer. We have an 11.5 miler in August but I don't know if I want to deal with the heat.

So far so good on the food front today, just need to go make lunch now. I had to skip the gym today though, sorting butter braids at school. I'll try to hit the treadmill tonight at home.

What is relatively close? I am always looking.

Here's how my food plan is going today -- my coworker brought in TWO Kringle today, raspberry and cinnamon. So much for sticking to my usual Quest bar and tea for breakfast, but SO good.

We missed Music Monday but I want to make an 80s playlist - give me your favorites. Mainstream or otherwise:)

Something that doesn't require a days drive. I live in a terrible part of CT where this nothing but cows!! There don't seem to be any certified 10K's in my neck of the woods so I'm probably going to have to drive to MA or NY to get to one.

the 2 I have:

Come on Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
Walking on Sunshine - Katrina and the Waves

I have Ragnar in June & really need to start incorporating multiple daily runs into my workout. I think my mileage over the 3 legs is about 15. My first leg is only 2 miles I think.

Costumes are fun. I haven't done any for non-Disney races, but I am definitely doing something gaudy for RnR Vegas. Thinking lots of gold!!

You have some cute ideas for your costumes for upcoming races & the Dory costume you did last year sounds fun! I love Dory!

Right now the costumes I am considering for PHM weekend are Cheshire Cat, Pinocchio, Olaf...perhaps Elsa, not 100% sure on it yet. Cheshire Cat is the only definite one, I will be doing that for either 5K or 10K.

Cant wait to see what you come up with for Mary Poppins!

Ok. I did it. I signed up for the 5K on May 10th. My 10 year old is running the kids' one mile event.

It took a lot of guts for me to do this. I'm a chicken.

First step on the path to PHM 2015 has been taken :)

Congrats! Is this your first? I remember when I finally had the courage to register for a race. I had been running for about 5 years and was super nervous because I never considered myself a runner. Then I ran it and that it, I was hooked! I did 5ks for awhile, then had my daughter and joined a moms group. A few of us went for a run and some of the moms were talking about how they had run half marathons and it dawned on me that I can do one, I don't have to be a high school track star. So I did my first half and that was it, I was hooked! Now I have a special wall hanging that hold my race bibs and my metals. I hung it over my desk at work and it makes me smile every time I look up at it. I remember going to my sister's first 5k with my mom a couple of years ago. My mom is not a runner and she told me she was amazed to see that there were so many people in all different shapes and sizes running. I told her, that's right, there is not a "runner" type, well maybe there is one, the type is the person who straps on sneakers and runs whether it is 1 mile or 15 miles.

Sorry for that bit, I just get so emotional and inspired when I talk about racing.

And those cherry blossom cupcakes sound amazing!

I was doing good the last two days until I went and got Easter stuff for my girls at lunch. And came home with Cadbury eggs for myself! And ate one already...... I'm so weak when it comes to sugar!!!!

Why oh why does sugar have to taste SO GOOD?!? :lmao:

YOU GOT THIS!!! Good job! First step is always the hardest! :)

I'm a chicken to do races above 5K's so I totally understand where you are coming from.

We are here to support you!!

Thanks for the support, ladies! It is much appreciated.

Yes, it's my first one. My goal is to finish in under 40 minutes, b/c that's my 3 mile time right now. I am not good at pacing myself, and I need to work on that. I usually run a fast first mile (9ish minutes), and then slow down b/c I can't maintain that yet.

In reality, I don't care what my time is, I just want to do this for me.

I feel like a nut, but I'm going to keep an eye out for the route map to be released so I can get in a practice run on it before then!

When you take off just keep running through your head, slow down, slow down, slow down. Starting out hard is something we all struggle with. I do it, my friend that did her first 5K last month did it. DS17 who is an elite runner does it. Adrenaline is hard to beat down.

And no a route map practice run is not nutty!!! It's smart, especially if there are any twists, turns and hills.
