Hope someone can help me with this...

DH and our two children, 6 & 8, will be flying out of PHL to join me at WDW. It'll be a 5 day jaunt. He was prepared to park in long-term parking at the airport and pay the daily rate. I'm a little concerned because he has mobility issues (wears leg braces to assist with walking). Would there be a lot of walking involved getting to/from the car to the shuttle? Is there a handicapped section there? Could the lot possibly be full?

I've checked into some of the off-site parking lots with Valet service and pricewise they seem to run about the same or a little more than LT Parking would be.

Also, we've heard traffic is rather bad with the Septa strike. Maybe it would be a good idea for DH to drive down the night before and stay at a hotel that includes LT parking.

Can anyone shed any light as to which option is best to pursue? He'd be leaving on Friday, Nov. 11th.

Thanks!

I do not know how the Septa strike is affecting the traffic in the area but I do have experience a few years ago w/ Leaving our car @ Pacifico Ford's Valet which worked wonderfully.

You go to their agency, sign up & then their rep shuttles you in your vehicle to the airport & leaves you off @ curbsite checkin so your luggage can be unloaded right from your car. Their rep even helped my DH with the luggage. The rep then takes your car back to Pacifico. We also scheduled our car to have an oil change & recall work done @ the agency. (they do work on any makers car there) The oil change cost was the same as our local company's & we also got a few car wash.

On arriving back @ the airport, we called Pacifico, got our luggage & they arrived within 10 minutes of us getting to the door. Once again they assisted my DH loading our luggage into our car, then shuttled us back to Pacifico where we quickly settled our bill & were on our way home.

Easiest parking we have ever done. Would recommend it to anyone.

I use winner airport valet. They are the cheapest. They offer a discount for AAA. You pick them up, they drop you off at the gate and help with the luggage. When you get back they pick you up and for an extra 10 bucks you don't have to drop them off, you just go. it was cheaper then long term. For 7 days last christmas it was 65 bucks.

We've used Winner airport valet many times as well, with no problems at all. It's a little weird letting a stranger drive away with your car while you are left at the airport curb-side check-in stand, but it works great.

We always pay the extra $10 to be able to leave directly from the airport when we return instead of having to drop the driver back off at the parking lot.

We always make a reservation there a few days ahead of time.

It's been a while, but I used to have surprisingly GOOD experiences parking at PHL, both long- and short- term.

(Compared to EWR, at least,) Prices seem reasonable and the bus service from the long-term lot is/was very frequent.

For the Northeast, it's not a bad airport!

Then again, YMMV.

You know with the strike I would look into a hotel close to the airport, I know the one we stayed in had a locked gate. They have shuttles that will take him to and from. Ask for assistance at the airport, that can be some significant walking. My Mom needs a wheelchair and we told the airline when we made reservations and they were always ready.

Another thought about the shuttles that do not use your car to drop you off at the airport - some use bus-type vans that can be difficult to enter/exit. I have arthritis and it is sometimes a challenge for me. Something to keep in mind. I would probably choose a hotel; Embassy Suites is great from what I hear, but they may use a bus-like shuttle. The Marriott Airport is the closest and most convenient, but their parking rates are high (same as the airport's) after the first day.

Thank you to all who responded. We still haven't made a decision, but you've provided more information to help make one!!!

We are staying at the Holiday Inn PHL airport for $119/night on a park and fly package. It got decent reviews, and it seems easier to take a shuttle in the morning than to worry about parking.

We use SunPark on Scott Way (as opposed to Essington Ave). I'm funny about having someone else drive my car which is why I haven't used Winner, etc. but... If you go on SunPark's web site you can pre-purchase vouchers for parking - I think it's 5 days for $35-$40. They are the closest to airport that I know of & are right off 95. Also, the shuttle picks you up & drops you off right at your car so no walking through the lot & they assist with luggage.
